Greece: Bill passed away into the loving arms of the Lord on Monday, October 20, 2008 at the age of 89. Predeceased by his beloved wife, Jeanette(Micalizzi)McElveney; son, James McElveney; sister, Gertrude(Harry)Reddy and several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law. Survived by his loving family, sons; William M.(Kathy Grunert)McElveney and Sean(Kelly)McElveney; his grandchildren, Jennifer(Jason)Stinson of CA.,Joseph, Brant, Katelyn and Grady; great-granddaughter to be born in November. Kathy's children, Doug(Kristin)Grunert of Boston and Marc Grunert; brothers-in-law, Sam Micalizzi of Albany and Robert Chamberlin; sisters-in-law, Sena(Charles)Micalizzi of CA, Rose Marie Micalizzi, Adrian(Robert)Lucacci, Karen(Fred)Christensen of Penn Yan and Marilyn(Peter)Mitrano; aunt, Lee Mucciola; special niece, Gertrude Azueta of Long island, NY; several other nieces, nephews and cousins; many dear friends, including the Atria of Greece. He was a Veteran of WWII. He was an active member of Greece Post 468 A.L. Also an active Communicant and Usher at Our Lady of Mercy Church and active in many Billard Leagues until the age of 88. Friends may call Wednesday 4-8PM at the Vay-Schleich & Meeson Funeral Home, 1075 Long Pond Rd. His Funeral Mass will be celebrated Thursday at 10:00 at Our Lady of Mercy Church. Interment Holy Sepulchre Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, friends wishing may make contributions to the American Cancer Society in his memory.

  1. Billy & Kathy Sean & Kelly we are very sorry for your loss.
    I’ve been told by several people that you can tell a lot about a man by his handshake.
    One thing I’ll always remember about Uncle Mac, was his firm handshake.
    As a little boy I would always try to squeeze his hand harder, but never could .
    We would be laughing till he brought me to my knees.
    Little did I know he was teaching me a life lesson.
    Uncle Mac thanks for teaching me the firm handshake, we’ll miss you!

    Bill and I send our deepest sympathy. I know from seeing you recently how you were expecting this to happen very shortly—doesn’t matter it is still difficult. From all you have said you were very fortunate to have such a wonderful Dad.

  4. Mac was my dads best friend,he was my neighbor and also my friend. Mac and Jeanette lived across the street from us for over 40yrs.They were good people. Mac always made me laugh ,I used go over and visit him all the time when I was a kid. The last time I saw Mac was 8yrs.ago at my fathers funeral he still remembered me and asked me if I still had the quarter he gave me when I was a little girl and I said I did. I send my deepest sympathy to his family. Barbara
