Died February 12, 2024, after a long battle with cancer. Predeceased by brother, Timothy; parents, Beverly & Edmund. Survived by children, Matthew (Davi Bernstein), Cali (Andrea Pascual) & Timothy; their mother and his lifelong friend, Patricia (Farrell); brothers, Edmund, Daniel, Michael & John; sister, Mary K. (Peter) Minahan; nieces & nephews; and many loving friends, not least of which his brothers and sisters at the Rochester Police Department, where David spent most of his 32 years in law enforcement.
In retirement, David’s enthusiasm for life was evident through his combined passions of kayaking, travel, and photography. He enjoyed sharing his talent with the community at local festivals & art shows, and through volunteer photography at Seneca Park Zoo.
The Zimmerman family thanks the doctors and nurses at URMC’s Wilmot Cancer Institute for six years of care and support. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Wilmot Cancer Institute or Golisano Children’s Hospital.
Friends may call Friday, February 16, 2024, from 4-7pm at Vay-Schleich and Meeson, 1075 Long Pond Road. His Funeral Service will be held Saturday, February 17th at 9:30 AM in the Funeral Home Chapel. interment in White Haven Memorial Park.

Dear Zimmermans, Our deepest condolences and sympathies to all of you on the passing of David. David was the best of the best, bar none. Despite his being dealt a very bad hand aka the nasty cancer crud, David endured and prevailed as well as humanly possible. May the Good Lord welcome David into Paradise and grant him eternal peace and happiness. David ran a brilliant race while he walked among us here on Terra Firma. May his oldest brother Tim and his parents welcome him into eternal happiness with them in the Big Guy’s house upstairs. God bless David and all of you. I have known most of you since the late 1950s when many of you resided at 274 Terrace Park in the “old neighborhood.” Be there for each other in this most difficult of times. God bless all of you. So sorry for your loss. I worked with Zip for years in the PD and then he took pictures of my grandchildren at a party at the zoo. It was nice to see him happy, enjoying life outside the PD.

Dave was a great person and a great police officer. We had many laughs and worked on many cases together. His family can be very proud of his service and his stellar reputation. No more suffering…. Rest in Peace Zip…
Prayers and condolences go out to the entire Zimmerman family. I enjoyed working with Zip at the range, where his calm demeanor and expertise were always appreciated. After retirement, I enjoyed getting together with Zip, Carl, and Steve at the Moose Club, where we would work on solving the problems of the world over some beers. Rest in Peace, my Brother.😢

I am very sorry to hear of Dave passing.
I enjoyed working with him considered him a good friend. We have shared many similar health stories recently.

Zipper was a good friend to all and I will remember his kind smile and sense of humor. The last time we saw Zip was at the clothesline arts fest. It was wonderful to see him interact with a couple of children who came up looking at his photos. He asked a little girl if she liked it and when she said yes, he took it off the wall and gave it to her. The look of surprise and appreciation on her face we will never forget. We miss you already and we love you forever, Zip. Rest in peace, dear friend.

Dear Patty and all the wonderful family .. my deepest and heartfelt sympathy, thoughts and prayers remain with you upon Dave’s passing. I counted it an honor and blessing to not only be brothers in the RPD and our Peer Support team, Code4Alpha, with Dave, but to be so proud to call him friend. Dave..zip…meet you in 1994 along with G.Weathers..that long hair, the beard and the converse….the real plain clothes look..you usually practice your spanish with me..will never forget those days , those buys, those busts..uncle dave is going to get so mad..that was the emergency code…take care mi amigo god bless you always…..hope to see you again….and i forgot….your old saying whem getting into the elevator at the psb..THEY CAN PUT A MAN ON THE MOON..BUT THEY CAN NOT BRING US 4 FLOORS UP……
