Rochester/Conesus Lake: Friday, January 2, 2009 at age 83. Predeceased by his beloved wife, Helen Mary Hogan; beloved son, William C. (“Billy”) Hogan; parents, William and Rosemary Hogan; sisters, Patricia Hogan and Rosemary Franklin. Bill is survived by his foster son, David Braun; sisters-in-law and brother in law, Suzanne Wigg, Joan Wigg and Catherine (Frank) Angevine; eighteen nieces and nephews; many dear friends. Bill was a Veteran of World War II and earned a Purple Heart during the Battle of the Bulge; he was a City of Rochester Firefighter for 38 years; an active member of American Legion Post #941 (Slager Band, Westside Memorial) for 50 years and Past-Commander of the Monroe County American Legion. Bill’s special pride was acting as Chaplain for the Monroe County Honor Guard, a duty he performed for many years. The family is grateful to all of the friends and family that supported Bill during these past four months, as well as the kind staff at Unity Hospital, Home Care of Rochester and St Anne’s Home. Special thanks to the MICU staff at Rochester General Hospital and Dr. David Lee for their kind and loving care. Friends may call Monday, 1-5 P.M. at Vay-Schleich & Meeson Funeral Home, 1075 Long Pond Road. His Funeral Mass will be celebrated, Tuesday, 10 A.M. at St. Monica’s Church, 841 Genesee Street. Interment in Webster Rural Cemetery will follow Mass. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Monica’s Church, 841 Genesee Street, Rochester, New York 14619 or St. Matthew Catholic Church 6591 Richmond Hills Road, Livonia, New York 14487 in his memory.

    Bill was a great guy and wonderful advocate for our veterans community. I will always remember his dedication to his brother and sister veterans. God’s peace to you my friend.

    I am lost for words. Bill Hogan was a wonderful man who lost a son way to young. He lived a life no one should have to live but he always held his head up high and tried to help others. I know Helen and Billy were there to meet him and finally they are together again. My condolences to Aunt Kathy, Anut Sue and all the family. Love you all! Susan

    I worked with Bill at Gardener Ave. firehouse, then known as trk.5 eng.18. I also did some work for Bill on some of his rental properties. Bill was a good and honest man, I am glad he was even a small part of my life. Good-bye my friend ,you will be missed

    Our condolences to the family of Bill. Our thoughts and prayers are with you today. We just had lunch with Bill at the last American Legion luncheon before leaving for Florida. A donation to St. Matthew Church is being sent in his memory.

Bill became a member of our ‘family’ in 1986 – since that time he has made many people smile with his meal deliveries.
