I am so sorry to hear of Troy’s death. I worked with him Athena; he was such as asset to the school community. He was helpful, professional, competent: he was always positive and had a genuine and realistic sense of humor. He shall be missed.

I was shocked and saddened by seeing this obituary in the paper this morning. (11/25/12)

As a shop teacher at Athena Middle School, Troy and I were very good friends and had a great deal of respect for one another. We had a mutual understanding that if either one of us needed anything, or there was anything we could do for one another as a result of our positions in the building, we did it gladly and it cemented our long association extending back to when I was on staff in the high school below. We would always share a joke and made it a point to say hello to one another virtually every day. I looked forward to this because of Troy’s unassuming attitude and his being such a positive and kind person. He was hard working and all the staff really liked him for his ‘can do’ way of handling their many requests.

Troy would make it a point to stop over with his friends to visit us at our Watkins Glen camp site and have a beer or two with us during the NASCAR weekend and we would always reminisce and chuckle about the good and bad people at Athena.

I know I’m going to miss Troy and I am sorry for your great loss.

To the Doty family, I’m deeply saddened for your loss. Troy and I worked together for over 25 years at GCSD and shared many work experiences together as we grew in our careers. His sensitivity to people and their needs was one of his assets and his caring for the students and faculty could be surpassed by none. He will be truly missed, Donald Mellema. GCSD retired.

What I remember most about Troy was his kindness, respect and friendliness to EVERYONE. When I worked at Athena with Troy, he frequently allowed students with disabilities to shadow and assist him. He was always patient and a wonderful mentor. He will be remembered fondly by everyone who knew him.

We are so very sad for your GREAT loss. Just love Troy and the entire Doty family. We are blessed to have so many wonderful childhood and adult memories of Troy. Dad and I really enjoyed golfing with Troy and his Mom, Joyce. We had sooo many good times and laughs. I know that Troy is hangin with his Dad now, at peace and no longer in pain. You are all in our thoughts and prayers and you endure the loss of Troy, an absolute wonderful man.
