Rochester: June 4, 2014 at age 90. Toni is survived by his wife, Ada Proia; son, Anthony (Jane Ellen) Proia; sister, Loretta Carbone; several nieces and nephews; cousins. He is predeceased by his father, Larry C. Proia; mother, Amelia Proia; brothers, Larry C. Proia II & Dante Proia. Toni worked for many years as a contractor and as a Postal Supervisor for the USPS. He is a proud Veteran of the United States Army as a demolition expert and a World War II Combat Veteran. Toni served in the African and Italian Campaigns, participated in several Amphibious Landings including Algiers, Sicily, Salerno and Anzio. He was severely wounded during combat in Cassino. Toni is the recipient of several medals and honors including, Legion of Merit, Purple Heart, Good Conduct Medal, Bronze Star, Silver Star, Meritorious Service Medal, Cross de Lorraine, Commendation for Valor, African Middle Eastern Campaign Medal, Italian Campaign Medal and WWII Victory Medal. He also received a letter of commendation from Defense Secretary William S. Cohen. Toni was very involved in various Veteran Organizations including the Thomas F. Healy VFW Post 16, DAV Monroe County Powers Chapter 15, NARF Chapter 124 and the American Legion. Toni’s visitation will be held Thursday, June 12th, 4-7 P.M. at Vay-Schleich & Meeson Funeral Home, 1075 Long Pond Road, Greece Chapel. His Funeral Service will be held Friday, June 13th, 10 A.M. in the Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow the service in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery with Military Honors. Contributions may be made to Wounded Warrior Project (WoundedWarriorProject.org) in his memory. Toni’s family would like to express a sincere thank you to the staff at the Canandaigua V.A. Medical Center and Thompson Hospital ICU Unit for their outstanding service and care.
