He retired from preparing income taxes in 2020.
Tom was a sports enthusiast his whole life. At age 10, be developed a love for Notre Dame University’s football, influenced by his grandmother who was an ardent fan. He would sit at his grandma’s side and listen to all the games on radio. This love was carried throughout his life. Tom was an avid golfer, played on several leagues and enjoyed leisure golf with Tommy and friends. He enjoyed his role as marshall at the PGA and LPGA golf tournaments. He got to see his favorite pros, such as Tiger Woods.
Tom was a devout Roman Catholic and a loyal  parishioner of St Lawrence Church for 55 years. He volunteered for various activities such as the festivals, canvassed assigned neighborhoods for census taking, helped Rose with her CCD classes and had fun working the garage sales.  He and Rose were asked to help with the initiation of the RCIA program at St Lawrence, to the learn the process of teaching candidates and catechumens who desire to enter the Catholic faith. They then volunteered to be sponsors for 5 years.
Tom was the best husband to Rose and Dad to Julie and Tommy. He was loved and respected by his family members and friends. He made them laugh by his humor and jokes. He enjoyed conversations involving any sport, Notre Dame, Yankees, business, politics, history and current affairs. He had a wealth of knowledge and shared it. Tom will be deeply missed.
The Oldfield family extends their gratitude and thanks to Dr Jordan Patterson, the nurses and entire team in the Sussman Palliative Care unit at Strong Memorial Hospital. Tom received impeccable care from these very dedicated professionals. Through their tender, loving care they gave him comfort and peace and maintained his dignity. They truly are Angels of Mercy.

Tom changed my life when he hired me at Gannett in 1978. Since that time he was a mentor and friend. We shared many great memories over the years. He always had a joke for every occasion. Rest in peace old friend.
