After the initial shock I could only remember the good times. Want to drive home from Toronto in a blizzard? You’re in my thoughts.

Although I have not seen you since high school, you are one of the people who pop into my thoughts. I’ll never forget you riding the 25 cent kiddie horse outside Woolworths in Northgate Plaza. I think we were in 8th grade and spending the weekend at Marie Vallone’s on Beach Ave. Beautiful inside and out, even in grade school. My sincere sympathy to your family.

Dear Mike, Michele, Ashley & Jillian, I am so sorry for your loss. Your wife/mother could light up a room just by walking into it. Sue could make me laugh just by looking at me and her spirit was always light and cheerful. I feel honored and blessed to have known her, as everyone else in her life must feel. Please accept my heartfelt sympathy.

I have known Mrs. Penkin since I was a little girl at Holy Cross school. She was one of my favorite play ground ladies when I was growing up, and was sad when she left us. Later in life, I attended high school with her daughter Jill. Her mother was always so happy and smiling. Two years ago, when my father had passed away from lung cancer, she was the one that put his memorial slide show together. She was very supportive of my family, and knew how to make us feel welcomed and cared for. Mrs. Penkin was a marvelous woman that deserved more than this. She will always be remembered with a smile and fondness.

I saw Sue two years ago at her job at Meesons, and we had a very nice talk. I remember calling her Grandmas’ house, which was right next door, to get ahold of her when we were going to Sacred Heart, and how lovely your mom was. We had some really good times at your house. You were always a dear one, and I will miss you.

Sue and I were classmates at Sacred Heart and Nazareth Academy – and lived near each other near Aquinas. I remember the many fun get togethers at Sue’s house – listening to music and on one day we tried to play a record backwards as we had heard that it had a message if played that way. So many memories of so many good times. Sue was always such a sweetie. I have thought of her often since high school, when we all moved away on our separate paths. I am sorry for your loss. She was truly a special person – and I picture her now up in heaven winning at a ‘limbo dance contest’.

Sue was my childhood friend and classmate at Sacred Heart and Nazareth Academy. We lost contact over the years but I remember her smiles and fun ways and am so sorry that she has died. My sympathy you all of her family.

Where do I start? Sue and myself & my children go way back at Holy Cross. My children all loved her while attending school there. Ironically, 2 years ago, my husband passed of lung cancer & was at Vay-Schleigh & Meeson – upon delivering photographs for a video memorial, Sue sought us out and hugged myself and all my children. She remembered us all & openly admitted that while she was doing the video for my husband’s showing, she wept openly because as she put it, ‘I knew most of the people in your family pictures. And I just wanted you to know that I’ve done nothing but think of you and the kids this whole week; they were ‘my’ kids when they weren’t with you!’ When my children saw who was the ‘video’ creator, they were all smiles & hugs for Sue, reminiscing with her about their ‘Holy Cross’ days & how much they missed her now that they were high schoolers! Take it from someone who knows: even though your hearts are aching, you must take the words that Sue offered to us while standing in the office at Vay-Schleich & Meeson. She told me, ‘you take the memories of your husband and tuck them into that big hole in your heart. This is what will make you feel safe & to never forget the good, the bad & everything in between. This is what will get you through.’ So, now I offer to you that same advice – and it works too. Time heals, but the memories tucked into the hole in your heart, helps you get through each day. My love & prayers to Sue’s family – she was a wonderful, caring & thoughtful person to everyone she came in contact with.
