Sterling Mason is one of the best men I have ever known. I want to be a better person for knowing him. Thanks for so many things Sterling and Carma. I am so sad you will not be walking through the door any more to cheer up my family. You will be so missed. I will miss Grandpa Sterling very much but will cherish the memories I have of him. I am very glad that I was able to take his classes at RIT and spend the time with him that I did growing up. In his honor I want to share the first joke he taught me:

Two strings walk into a bar. The first string orders a beer and the bartender says, ‘we don’t serve strings here.’ The second string goes to the bathroom, ties himself up and frays his ends. He comes out and orders a beer. The bartender looks at him suspiciously and says, ‘are you a string?’ The string replies, ‘Nope, I’m a frayed knot!’

A note from my father, Terry Schleede:

Sterling was one of the greatest people I ever met. Not only was he extremely smart, he had more common sense than most 10 men I know. And, knew how to articulate his point of view so that it was easy to understand. In an age of the ‘ME’ generation. I am often very concerned about how and why no one has any respect for anyone anymore. It seems to me that it is becoming more and more it’s all about ‘ME,ME, ME. Even though I haven’t seen Sterling in years. I often thought about him. I always wanted to know what his perspective of this was. Especially because he lived his life to help everyone else. It was never about himself. He will be sorely missed.

I am truly sad at the passing of Sterling my heartfelt condolences to Carma, Ann, Lisa, Robyn, Ray, Jim and Dana, Jared and Kyle and the entire Mason family. Sterling left an impression on me that will last forever his problem solving ability and forecasts which are still in use at Eastman Kodak Company and many others where ground breaking in every aspect of the word. I was so very fortunate that Sterling and Carma opened their home to this kid from the city and shared their family with me they are totally awesome and inspiring people. My last conversation with Sterling was at Kodak during a massive downsizing and he told me to stay where I was and gave me a 10 year prediction on what to expect, well Sterling was right again and hit every forecast on the nose he was an amazing man whose like I have never met before he always had a smile for me and shared his insight with me so I would be better prepared for future events. I will always miss my friend and can only hope to be as inspiring as he was, here’s a funny from Sterling , ‘What is the Sq root of Pi ? Answer: Pies don’t have square roots ‘ LOL Thanks for being so amazing and the gift of knowledge.
