Stephen R. Simmons Tuesday, February 1, 2022 at age 64 went home to be with his Lord; his parents, Donald and Shirley Simmons; sister, Donna Simmons.  Stephen is survived by his best friend and wife of 42 years, Julie (Pockett) Simmons; his loving children, Stephanie (Phill) Astuto, Ryan (Nikki) Simmons and Nicole Simmons; his pride and joy grandchildren, Dominic and Giovanni Astuto and Layla Simmons; sisters, Pam (David) Ingram and Paula (David) Colvin; sister-in-law, Nancy (Donald) Sauerbier; brother-in-law, Gary (Kathy) Pockett; many nieces, nephews & cousins; dear friends. Stephen was employed by General Motors for 44 years with plans to retire this year.  He loved his work, where he had many dear friends, but his passion was spending time with his family.  He enjoyed watching his grandchildren play sports and was very proud of them.  He was their teams’ “biggest fan”.  He had a great sense of humor that many will miss.  He was truly a great friend to all, always putting others before him.  In his spare time, he liked to play golf, enjoyed gardening and had a love for hosting and cooking; “the ultimate chef”!  Stephen was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, and friend.  He will be deeply missed by all who knew him. Stephen’s visitation will be held Tuesday, February 8th 4-7 PM at Vay-Schleich & Meeson 1075 Long Pond Road.  His Funeral Mass will be celebrated Wednesday, February 9th 11:00 AM at Spiritus Christi Church 121 Fitzhugh St. N Rochester, NY 14614.  Private interment.  In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Spiritus Christi Church or G.R.A.S.P (www.graspinc.org/donate) in his memory.  For more information and to sign his online guestbook, visit www.meesonfamily.com

Steve, has been a great friend and coworker for the last 44 years. Had the pleasure of knowing him more as a friend. Steve had a sense of humor that was second to none. He got along with everyone. To say the least, Steve was a unique individual.

I am raising your whole family up in Prayer at this time. I was shocked to hear of Steve’s passing. While he and I didn’t work in the same departments, we did have occasion to interact together. Especially at work after our return in May of 2020. He was a rare gem, one you don’t find very often. It was a pleasure to work with. God keep you in his loving embrace. Mary Tyler

Dear Julie and all your family I’am so sorry for the loss of your loved one I just can’t believe we have lost a very special person. I worked for Steve in the office at Delphi for several years like 20 doing a non-traditional job. My husband also worked for him. He was a great person to work for so patient, caring, understanding, had a great sense of humor, always there to help you when in need of him. He would always say something about you for he had to cook that night which he said he enjoyed and talked about his children. He loved you all very much. At one time you took care of my husband in the hospital. So our sympathy, prayers are with you all for the loss of your special loved one May God Bless you all.
