Rochester: Peacefully in her sleep, Sunday, May 20, 2012 at age 91. Predeceased by her husband, Lawrence H. Schmerbeck; brother, Donald Vay; sister, Geraldine Richter and brothers-in-law, Robert LaVigne, Robert Hammill, Richard Richter, Arthur Lester and John Ryan; son-in-law, Gary Welch. Survived by her children, Mary Leah Welch, Laurie (David) Insalaco, Joyce Delgatti, William (Erin) Schmerbeck; grandchildren, Nicole Welch (William Maurer), Shannon Welch, Matthew Welch, David (Erika) Insalaco, Kimberly (Christopher) Legg, Scott (Joelle) Delgatti, Tiana Cook; Anthony Rowe, M.D.; 3 great-grandchildren; sisters and brothers-in-law, Arlene (Bud) Nealon, Eunice LaVigne, Bernice Hammill, Mary Louise Lester, Marguerite Ryan, Sister Concepta Vay, S.S.J.; sister-in-law, Margaret (Peggy) Vay; many nieces, nephews and cousins; dear friends and loving relatives. No prior calling. Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated Thursday (May 24th) 9:00 AM at St. Charles Borromeo Church. Interment, Holy Sepulchre Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Sister’s of Saint Joseph or Stepping Stone’s Learning Center in her memory.

Dear Schmerbeck Family, Some of my greatest memories are spending time at your house back in the 60’s. Your mom and dad always made me feel like part of the family and I will forever be grateful. To the Schmerbeck Family. I met Selma in 1935 as a freshman at Nazereth. She has always been a friend. We shared the same homeroom for four years. The past few years have been a struggle for her, but I still have to face those years. My sympathy to all. Clara Koerner She was one great lady.
