Let the family know you care by sharing this tribute

Scott C. Discher   Rochester:  passed away suddenly from this earthly life to join his God on April 24, at age 63. He is predeceased by his parents Mary and Wendell Discher. He was deeply beloved by those who survive him including Jocelyn (Bob) Ault, Craig (Judy Chilson), and Norman (Jennifer) Discher, and his treasured nieces and nephews: Taylor and Tory Ault, Falkner, Karl, Tabitha, Marianne and Katherine Discher and best friend Geoff Malak. He absolutely cherished his family and friendships and was exceedingly loyal and generous in thought and action. He had a twinkle in his eyes and could often see the humor in something and point it out. His chuckle was infectious. Scott, “a gentle giant” was an unassuming person and fondly nicknamed “Bear” by family and friends. He enjoyed various college and professional sports and most especially the Buffalo Bills. Born in Rochester he grew up in Greece and was active in the Boy Scouts and at Bethany Presbyterian Church. The family moved and he then attended West Irondequoit HS where he was on the wrestling team. As an adult he became interested in Social Work. He went on to earn his B.A. at SUNY Brockport.  He dedicated his career to the care and development of adults with special needs, working at care homes with the ARC and Starbridge. His goal was always to help his clients achieve their fullest potential and learn skills to enable them to be successful in employment, healthy living and navigating the challenges they faced. He was hardworking and gave whatever he could when asked. Scott had his own lifelong challenges that many didn’t know about.  His personal experience gave significant insight and allowed him to focus on people’s abilities. When he believed an injustice occurred, or someone needed an advocate, he would look for ways to fight for their care. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him. A service to celebrate his special life will be held on Saturday (April 30th) 11:00 AM at Bethany Presbyterian Church, 3000 Dewey Avenue. In lieu of flowers please consider honoring Scott through a contribution to the Al Sigl Center, 1000, Elmwood Ave., Suite 300, Rochester, NY 14620 or to Reigning Cats and Dogs Sanctuary, 1591 Route 14A, Penn Yan, NY 14527.

Jocelyn, Craig and Norman, I was so very sad to hear of Scott’s sudden passing. He was my first playmate and friend. Scott had a good heart and was a kind soul. I will fondly remember all the Christmas Eves and family vacations we spent together growing up. I hope it gives you comfort to know your parents were there to greet him when he passed. Much love to you all, Lindsey

Scott’s parents went to Kalamazoo College, as did my parents. I knew this wonderful family initially through the K Club activities in Rochester. Our families developed a long-term association outside of just the K Club. They are wonderful family. Scott was a kind, friendly person who was a joy to be around. I am so sorry for your loss.

Something reminded me of Scott today and I googled him only to find his very sad obit. Kudos to the family member that wrote this, it defined him to a T. He was a very popular guy at SUNY Morrisville where he went for at least a couple semesters. His difficulties seemed to make him a lovable precious teddy bear of a guy, and I will never forget him. RIP Scott, I can still remember your awesome infectious laugh.
