Sara A. “Sally” (McAvinney) O’Grady Sara passed away peacefully after a long illness at the age of 82 on January 6, 2020. Born in Rochester on March 5, 1937 Sara was the second oldest child of the late James & Alice (Donoghue) McAvinney. Predeceased by her husband of 58 years, John W. O’Grady; infant son, James John; sister, Mary Lou Florack. Survived by her children, Kathleen (Michael) Snyder, Timothy O’Grady & Kevin (Dawn) O’Grady; grandchildren, James Snyder, Holly (Andrew) Proctor, Kirsten O’Grady, Michael (Lauren) O’Grady, Alicia O’Grady; sisters, Elaine Benedict and Marjorie Bengston; sister-in-law, Mary Agnes Corey; several nieces, nephews and dear friends. Sara “Sally” as she was known to many, was an employee at Sibley’s before she raised three children in the town of Gates. A hard working homemaker, wife and mother. She enjoyed gardening, crocheting, ceramics and traveling. We will miss her greatly. Sara’s visitation will be held Friday, January 10th 2-4 PM where her funeral service will follow at 4:00 PM in the chapel of Vay-Schleich & Meeson 1075 Long Pond Rd. Interment, Holy Ghost Cemetery will be held Saturday, January 11th at 10:00 AM. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to American Diabetes Association or St. John’s Home in her memory.
