Robert Joseph Agostinelli, MD
Greece: passed away on October 20 2022 at age 84, with courage and dignity and with his loving wife of 28 years, Veronica Agostinelli, by his side. His spirit was released from his tired body and is now exploring the heavens. Bob is survived by children Peter Agostinelli (predeceased wife Michelle), David Agostinelli and Karen Agostinelli. He is also survived by his stepchildren, Monica Savino (Walt Martin), Donna Whitmore (Andrew), Andrea Quaranto (Larry), and Dyane Savino (James Williams); two brothers Richard Agostinelli (Valerie) and John Agostinelli (Teresa); 8 beautiful grandchildren (Katie, Erin, Megan, Emma, Hali, Michael, Alexandra and Mackenzie) and two great grandchildren whom he loved and adored; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Our family cannot express in words our gratitude for the love and care provided by our dear friend Mary Resch in the last few months. As a nurse, Mary worked with Bob for many years and her expertise and love were a true gift to all of us. Survived also by his good friends and partners in practice, Bernard Farnand, and Tim Nolan who were always just a phone call away when Bob needed them.
Bob was a graduate of Aquinas High School and received his BS from St. John Fisher College. He received his medical degree at Marquette University and performed his internship and residency at Rochester General Hospital. A major in the Vietnam War, he was stationed in Phu Bai where he served as a physician for one year. Dedicated to his patients, Bob was a most beloved and respected physician for over 50 years in Rochester, NY. He touched the lives of so many over his extensive career. You could find Bob searching for the next perfect bottle of wine to share with his family and friends for Sunday dinner and enjoying the views from their lake home in Canandaigua. Bob and Ronnie traveled the world extensively and were so grateful for those times together. Everyone who remembers him is asked to celebrate Bob’s life in their own way. Raising a glass of their favorite wine in his memory would be quite appropriate. You know if you asked him if he’d like a glass, his answer would be “Does a bear shit in the woods”. He lived out his values of hard work and family above all and every day. His family was his circle of strength, and he will be deeply missed.
No prior calling. His Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Saturday (November 19th) at 11 o’clock at Our Mother of Sorrows Church at 5000 Mt Read Blvd, Rochester, New York 14612. Private Interment. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the American Heart Association or the American Diabetes Association in Robert’s memory. A classmate of Bob’s from Aquinas Institute, class of 1956 and remember him well. New he was a Doctor. Blessings and prayers for the family at this time from St. Petersburg, FL.
It was always a pleasure to see Dr.Agostinelli at 530 in the morning making his rounds seeing patients at Park Ridge/Unity hospital chewing gum he will be missed by all may he rest in peace
Even though I have not seen Dr. Agostinelli since he retired, I will miss him. I believe my original patient number was 72 – that’s how long I was a patient. He was a great doctor! Rest easy, Dr. A!!
I had been a patient of Dr A’s since I was about ten years old until he retired last year. There was no better doctor ever! My mother always loved to remind him we were the third family to join his practice when he started. He diagnosed my late husband with lung cancer long before the tests confirmed and continued to check in on us both up to his death and with me even after. 53years with him wasn’t long enough. I will always love this man and be blessed he was in my life.
I was one of the lucky patients of Dr. A. He was dedicated. Caring. And always had the quickest and best diagnoses. He was one of a kind for sure. He would even take the time to chat if he felt I needed to. I was blessed to enjoy health under his care for many many years. I cried the day he told me he was semi retiring…and sharing his patience with a new member of the practice,..I loved Dr. A. May he enjoy the best wine in heaven…my sympathies to all his family…and a footnote..His mom and sister in law and doctor A. all shopped from time to time at our farm market..my daddy loved Mrs. A…Doc A’s mom. Love …Marty
As a former patient of Dr. Agostinelli’s office for many many years, I can say it was a great privilege to know him. I loved his sense of humor and his medical expertise and candid diagnosis style. "Does it hurt when you do that? Then don’t do that!" May God bless Dr. and family. May it comfort you to know that he is no longer suffering, soldiering on, but receiving the blessed rewards of a life well lived in the service of God and his fellow man. Rest peacefully, Dr. Agostinelli. You have earned your wings.
I was a patient of Dr Agostinelli from the early 1960 I adored this man. When he retired I sent him a long letter of thanks and gave him a dinner certificate to DeVincis Rest in peace
As a former patient of Dr. Bob, I was in awe of the knowledge he had about all medical issues. He diagnosed my lung cancer back in 2005, where no other doctor could. I had Dr Bob since 1972 til his retirement. He was loved by all who knew him. He had a great sense of humor with me and wife over the 50 years we were patients. Bob and Joanne Zeh
Dr. A. was an awesome Doctor and an amazing man. He cared for my parents, my sister and I for many, many years. And he would walk into the room with a grin on his face. He and my dad would crack jokes at my parents’ doctor appts., trying to give my mom the business, and it was fun to watch. It was sad when he retired, yet understandable. Deepest condolences to his family, friends and former colleagues now with his passing. He will be deeply missed. They will be in my prayers. Perhaps he can reunite with my mother who is also up in Heaven; for old time sake. Beth Nichols and the Nichols’ family
Dr. Agostinelli will surely be missed. He was our doctor for over 50 years. He was funny, caring, and smart. And took the time to chat about our families. It was fun one year at Lakeside Campground to run into him there….always down to earth. Will never forget him. He truly was the BEST!
Bob was a wonderful person and an excellent clinician. I always respected and admired how he treated all of his patients. He was a role model for all other physicians. He will be greatly missed by all of his patients and his colleagues. My deepest condolences to all of his family members.
Dr. Bob, Was larger than life and had such a wonderful spirit. Working with him was an amazing experience. I will never forget him. He could make me laugh so hard. Then be so gentle with compassion. We had such amazing conversations. He was one of the most dedicated men I have ever met. He loved Ronnie, his kids and family so much. I already miss him so much. Your last text to me was that you are happy. I will treasure that knowing you are flying with the angels now. God bless you Dr. Bob. Love and miss you!

Dr. A treated my entire family (The Lombardo’s) with professionalism coupled with a dash of kindness & humor for at least 50 years-especially my parents who enjoyed him as their PCP! His kindness to them when my younger brother passed away was exceptional and when we lost my Dad (at 102) he even called me on the phone to express his condolences. I was blown away by that kind gesture! You earned your wings Doctor. Our sincerest sympathy to his family & colleagues who also were the Best!

Dear Veronica (Ronnie), So so sorry to read and hear about Bob’s passing and him joining his maker in the heaven. I got to know him in 1979 when I joined Dr Tom Casey at RGH as his associate and Theresa was the admin staff. We bought our first and only house through her I believe her husband a realtor. I was Bob’s go to guy for the GI issues of his patients and then the entire group. We worked closely at then Parkridge hospital today’s Unity where I met you at medical records dept. Rest is history. We love him, a genuine gentleman’s Gentleman. Kind, polite and passionate about caring for his patients. May his soul rest in peace and you be brave and remain strong. I will always have such fond memories of my close childhood friend and all of our crazy “fun” ideas. He was always the most sensible of the group i must say.. He was tough and fought any adversity and fulfilled his dream. Rest in eternal peace Bob for a life well lived and loved. Your friend , Midge
I worked with (Major)Dr Bob ‘70-‘71 at the 85th Evacuation Hospital in Phu Bia. He was a big man with a heart twice as big…did I mention that he was also funny! RIP Dr Bob, you’ve “Stacked Arms for the final time” and stepped out of life’s back door. Safe journey to your next and final assignment. Arthur L Phillips Command Sergeant Major, USA retired
Dear Ronnie, Upon our relocation to Rochester in 1970, Bob & I needed to find a medical practice to join. Dr. Agostinelli was the resounding recommendation; at that time his office was in the Northgate area, & we could walk there! We were beyond fortunate & blessed to be in the care of this ultra -consummate professional for many, many years. He treated us (as all his patients surely) with not only expert advice but also with kindness & humor too. Coincidentally Bob’s mom was director of nurses for Sodus Hospital, and she had worked with him there when he was a resident. She confirmed what a great choice we had made! We shall revere him always and send you our very heartfelt condolences. Kathy & Bob Single

I was so privileged to have Dr. A as my pcp for so many years I lost count. His wit & personality was so comforting. Prayers for your family.
Dear Ronnie, I am so sorry to miss Bob’s funeral but am still in rehab at St. Ann’s. He was a great doctor and took good care of me for many years. I’m sure you’ll miss him. Prayers for you and the rest of the family. Judy conley
Bob and I were classmates at Aquinas, but didn’t become good friends until we both attended St. Michael’s College at the University of Toronto. We were roommmates until he broke his leg playing football and had to drop out of school. We spent many years double-dating with our Polish-American girlfriends who lived across the street from each other just off Hudson Ave. He was my best friend for a number of years until different schools and locations caused us to lose touch. My fond memories of our times together are among my most cherished.
