Greece: Rita passed on Thursday, October 4th at age 92. Predeceased by her husband, John A. Gefell and her brothers and sisters. She is survived by her children, John (Gail) Gefell, Ron (Pam) Gefell, Randy (Anne) Gefell, and Triplets, Tom (Charita) Gefell, Ann (Peter) DiProjetto & JoAnn (Marty) Yu; 14 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; sisters in law, Catherine (Richard) Flanagan; brother in law, Paul (Barbara) Gefell; sister-in-law, Betty Gard; several nieces, nephews and cousins; many dear friends. During the 1940’s, Rita worked as a stenographer at a Law Office in Rochester, then served during WWII as a stenographer at the Pentagon in Washington DC. She traveled to Alameda, California and married John on 8/1/45. They moved back to Rochester later to raise their family. Mom was an active and longtime parishioner of Our Mother of Sorrows Catholic church. Mom enjoyed reading her Bible, singing, praying and spending time with her beloved family. Our heartfelt gratitude and appreciation goes out to the Episcopal Church Home facility for their amazing job of caring for our mother which we know was a blessing from God. Rita’s visitation will be held Tuesday, October 9th from 4-7 p.m. at Vay-Schleich & Meeson Funeral Home, Greece Chapel, 1075 Long Pond Road. Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated, Wednesday October 10th, 9:30 AM at Our Mother of Sorrows Church, 5000 Mt. Read Blvd. Interment will follow Mass in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery. Contributions may be made to The Episcopal Church Home, 505 Mt. Hope Avenue, Rochester, NY 14620 in Rita’s memory. View Tribute Video
