Greece: Thursday, September 29, 2011. Predeceased by her parents, Dominick and Lucille Conezio. Survived by her husband of 40 years, Richard Shiesley; sister, Barbara (Mel) Dell of Ft. Myers, FL; uncles, Joseph Palermo (Uncle Joey), Carl J. Palermo; many loving cousins and friends; she also cherished her special relationship with Pamela L. Paris of San Francisco. Phyllis taught in the West Irondequoit School District for 34 years inspiring learning for several generations of children. During her tenure, she was honored by her peers being named District Teacher of the Year. Phyllis also served in a leadership role throughout her career. She was passionate about travel, dance, theater sunsets, reading and antiquing. Phyllis especially loved her Victorian cottage and her neighbors at Lomond Shores in Kendall, NY. The family would like to thank the medical and support staff at Rochester General medical ICU and the Hildebrandt Hospice for their compassionate care. No prior calling. Her Funeral Service will be held Tuesday 10:00 AM in the chapel of Vay-Schleich & Meeson Funeral Home, 1075 Long Pond Road, Greece Chapel. Interment, Holy Sepulchre Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, Upstate NY Chapter, 1650 South Ave. Suite 100, Rochester, NY 14620 in her memory.
I so enjoyed working with Phyllis at Iroquis School from 1988 – 1994. What a wonderful person and super teacher. I was so sad to read of her passing in today’s paper. My condolences to Rich and her family.
