Rochester: Suddenly on Tuesday, August 25, 2009. He is survived by his sons, Nathan C. Hahn, Derek X. (Kristen) Hahn and their mother, Bonnie Hahn; his sisters, Sarah Kennedy and Joan (Murray) Sheldon of Stewart, FL; his grandson, Jacob X. Hahn; many nieces, nephews and special friends. Peter was a very active member of Spiritus Christi Church and the Dimitri House. No prior calling hours. Friends are invited to Peter’s Memorial Mass at Spiritus Christi Church, 121 N. Fitzhugh St. on Tuesday afternoon at 4 P.M. Interment, private. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Dimitri House, 102 N. Union St., Rochester, NY 14607 in Peter’s memory.
Bonnie, I heard of Peter’s sudden death from Dick. I was saddened to hear this news. Peter and I had not keep in touch after I moved to the West Coast in the late ’60s. I did get to spend some time with him three years ago at Thanksgiving. Peter is the first of the three amigos to leave this life for a better life ahead. I will remember him in my prayers. I wish to extend my condolences to you, Derek, and Nat. My thoughts will be with the family on Tuesday at Peter’s memorial. God bless, Don

I am very sorry that Uncle Peter passed away. I will miss him and always remember his kindness. My condolences to the family.
I met Peter 20 years ago at a support group called ‘The Lunch Bunch’ which Peter had helped to found. For a few years I had opportunity to know & share with Peter each Saturday morning. One of the many things he organized at that time was a yearly walk carolling at Christmas time in a city neighborhood. This was so typical of the initatives that I witnesses Peter take over the years. At Spiritus Christi Church I saw him nearly every Sunday morning for 10 years at the 7:30 Mass. He led by example but was also the ultimate recruiter to involve others in his causes. He recuited me, among other things, as a volunteer several years ago at the Dimitri House Men’s Homeless Shelter. When I lost my own sister earlier this month, he was called me several times to see how I was doing and even wanted to drive into Buffalo to be with me at the Interment. That was so typical of Peter’s care for his friends. I’m grateful to you Peter for being part of my life. When a need by another becomes apparent, I will always have to puase & think, ‘what would Peter have done’?
I met Peter a few years ago in the common ground of helping people get better lives. I really admired his enthusiasm and perserverance to create new opportunities. Peter had great compassion for others and a genuine commitment to being helpful.
I met Peter in 2007 during one of his tours through downtown Rochester. He noticed my interest in history and at the end of the tour, he asked me if I could do some historical research for him regarding the Neighborhood of the Arts so that he could give tours of that area. (Neighborhood of the Arts is the Atlantic Ave & University Ave area). In 2008 we were both asked to present our Neighborhood of the Arts histoical research at the Rochester Stories seminar hosted by the ArtWalk 2 project. We rehearsed our presentation just a few hours before the event and when it came time for us to speak, everything, including our slide show, went smoothly! Peter was always gracious and he always had a smile on his face. He never allowed anything to get him down. Good-bye, Peter. It was great to work with you. Jesus has probably appointed you one of the tour guides of Heaven now. I hope to be on that tour when I see you again! Sincerely your friend, Keith Hicks
I will remember Peter’s smile – it would light up a room. He was a good and kind person to everyone. I only knew him for about a year but will miss him.
Ii know how important Peter’s sons were to him and was delighted that he had a grandson. How Peter must have adored him, even to the X for his middle name. Though I hadn’t seen Peter in a number of years, I never forgot him. It seems appropriate that he and Ted Kennedy died in such close proximity. Both gracious men who lived life with full passion and enthusiasm. Here’s to you Peter. Thanks for the joy you gave me so many years ago. Much love, Elizabeth

Peter was a good and gentle person and will be missed. We were in the processing of scheduling a walking tour of the city of Rochester for the seniors to participate in..I am sure you would have given us a great one. Two weeks ago today we had a great conversation, little did we know. I am sure there will be some great superbowl parties, where you are. Thank you for all that you have done for so many people.
Peter was a man that was kind. He thought of others no matter who they were. This was manifested by his hard work and dedication to the Dimitri House and the people they serve. I am very glad that I met him and will miss him.
Peter was a regular at the library where I work and it was always a delight to see him walk in. He was always excitedly involved in his next project, while taking the time to take in those around him. My sympathies to his family. He will be missed.
Peter was fun, dedicated to his causes, lived simply and had a smile for everyone. Some weeks I would see him every day, get an email from him or bump into someplace. Will miss him.
Peter your smile and sence of right will be missed. To those whom you were friends you were loyal and full of grace. There are many who will miss you and your acts of service to those who have less. Rochester will have a gap that will not be filled soon. Y Peace and Grace to your family and friends.
The Sunday morning breakfast missed you this morning Peter… in person, but not in spirit. You have inspired us all with your sharing, your inspiration, and your comradery. You made me appreciate the rich downtown history, as well as all the downtown entertainment. Your heart is/was rich with helping others…..reasons to remember you all year…. winters at Dimitri, Superbowl Party, Immanuel Park Ave. fest…… too many to list…
The Veterans Community Technology Center would like to send our condolences to the family of Peter Hahn. Peter was an outstanding instructor here at the community technology center! He will be greatly missed!
This community and Peter’s circle of friends and acquaintances are better because of him. His positive attitude, determination and thoughtfulness are traits I will remember fondly and will work harder to incorporate into my life. I was proud to have him affiliated with our organization, VisitRochester, and I’m thankful we we’re able to work together over the past year. Go get em, Peter!
To all of Peter’s friends and family – Peter also gave of himself to The Landmark Society, leading Corn Hill Strolls and sharing all that he found exciting about our city. He was such a wonderful friend to his friends -and to the friendless as well. If Peter was in the room, then no one could really be called friendless.
What a dear friend Peter was! One of a kind and totally irreplaceable. We loved his sense of humor, his interest in and concern for the world around him and all human beings in it. We will miss the gentle hand of friendship he extended to all. We offer our sincere sympathy to Peter’s family.
