Greece: September 28, 2013 at age 88. Born September 26, 1925 in Pittsburgh, PA. Mildred was a graduate of Mount Carmel School of Nursing through the Army Nurse Corps. She began her career as a registered nurse at Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh and retired from nursing after many years at Rochester General Hospital. She has been a communicant of St. John the Evangelist Church in Greece since 1964. While rearing her children, she was a Cub Scout den mother as well as a Girl Scout leader. Mildred was a prolific crocheter, an avid reader and bingo player. She was the world’s greatest mother. Mildred is predeceased by her parents, Albert & Elizabeth Merkel; sisters, Lois & Elizabeth Merkel; beloved husband of 44 years, Gerard C. Kircher. She is survived by her brothers, Paul (Regina) Merkel of Natrona Heights, PA & Albert (Mary Jane) Merkel of Garland, TX; her children, Patricia (James) Crane of Pine City, NY, John (Joan) Kircher & Catherine (David) Guillod; grandchildren, Daniel Crane of Owego NY, Emily (Jon) Vieira of Winter Springs, FL, Lauren Kircher, Joseph Kircher, William Kircher, Paul (Megan Hausner) Guillod & Christopher Guillod; nieces, nephews; dear friends. Mildred’s visitation will be held Wednesday, October 2nd, 4-7 P.M. at Vay-Schleich & Meeson Funeral Home, 1075 Long Pond Road, Greece Chapel. Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated Thursday, October 3rd, 10 A.M. at St. John the Evangelist Church, 2400 West Ridge Road. Interment will follow in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.
