Father Michael J. Schramel Gates: Sunday, October 25, 2020 at age 68. Predeceased by parents, Jack and Marie Schramel; brother, Leo Schramel. Survived by his brother, John (Lynn) Schramel; sister-in-law, Cherie Schramel; niece, Claire Schramel; nephew, Paul (Rachel) Schramel; many dear friends, extended and Church family. Father Schramel will lie in state on Thursday October 29th, at the Parish of the Holy Family at St. Jude Church, 4100 Lyell Road, Rochester, beginning at 4 p.m., and concluding with the communal praying of Vespers at 7 p.m. The Most Reverend Salvatore R. Matano, Bishop of Rochester, will preside at the Mass of Christian Burial on Friday October 30th, at 12:00 NOON, at St. Jude Church. Due to COVID-19 occupancy restrictions, attendance at the Mass of Christian Burial is limited, however, the Funeral Mass will be live-streamed (via https://www.theparishoftheholyfamily.org/). The church will open at 11:00 a.m., for those attending the Funeral Mass. Burial will follow at Holy Ghost Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the School of Holy Childhood, 100 Groton Parkway, Rochester, NY 14623 in Father Schramel’s memory. It is with heavy heart and great sadness that we learned about the death of our dear friend father Mike. We have so many memories of meals shared, weddings and travel. He was a blessing in our lives and will be greatly missed. May his memory be eternal.
Eternal God, maker of heaven and earth, who formed us from the dust of the earth, who by your breath gave us life, we glorify you. Jesus Christ, the resurrection and the life, who suffered death for all humanity, who rose from the grave to open the way to eternal life, we praise you. Holy Spirit, author and giver of life,the comforter of all who sorrow, our sure confidence and everlasting hope,we worship you.To you, O Blessed Trinity, be glory and honor for ever and ever, Amen
Sending my love and prayers to my cousins during this special time. I saw Mike recently to give him a St. Theresa Shrine his Great Grandfather built before he died in 1931. We had a wonderful visit. I was with him also when he Anointed our cousin Rita Hirschler who is 103. Love, hugs, prayers, Edna Slyck (your Father’s first cousin)
We have lost not only a pastor but a friend. Rest in peace with God and his Angel’s. Til one day when we all meet again on our new journey. I am sure St. Pete will have Fr. Mike’s boarding pass all properly validated
John and family, my thoughts are with you at this time. Memories thought forgotten come flooding back. I was half expecting Father Michael to visit me in Cebu someday. He would have liked it here for a week or two.
Looking forward to having a beer and a big bowl of white chicken chili with you again, in Heaven. Miss you so much but have been blessed with fond memories of the many lunches and laughter with you and the other volunteers. May you rest in peace….
Fr. Mike was a gentle giant, particularly with small children. It was always fun to see him hold up a baby at baptism, and include other siblings in the event. Fr. Mike’s homilies were often very "homey", reflecting on the values he learned growing up and recalling family dinners and celebration. He donated many wonderful dishes when we used to have a parish function. He loved to cook and credited that to his mother. I think the past few years were difficult for you and I think God knew you were tired. You left big shoes to fill. Rest in peace, Father.
