May 20, 1961 – March 9, 2026
Matthew “Matt” F. Goulden, beloved son, father, fiancé, friend, & “Pops” passed away unexpectedly on Monday March 9th, 2026, a couple months shy of his 65th birthday. Born on May 20, 1961 in Macedon, NY, Matt lived a life full of adventure and love.
He is survived by his father, Frederick Goulden; fiancé Brenda McBride; son Matthew (Tara) Goulden; step-daughter, Courtney (Sean) Cozan; sister, Lisa (Mark) Wyland. He leaves behind his cherished grandchildren, Claire Goulden and Jett Cozan, as well as many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and lifelong friends.
He is predeceased by his mother, Jareen (Cunningham) Goulden.
Matt dedicated his career to Unity Hospital and Rochester Regional Health Systems, and was looking forward to his near retirement. Matt graduated from Palmyra-Macedon High School and received his Bachelor’s Degree from SUNY Brockport.
Matt loved spending time with his family and friends. He was referred to as “Pops” from his two grandchildren, whom he adored. Matt had a lifelong love of the water and treasured driving his red Corvette around town. He spent his time attending car shows and tinkering around the house.
He will always be remembered for his kindness, love for cooking, and ability to light up a room with his laughter. Matt was a cooking enthusiast and everyone knew when it was time to stay out of the kitchen. Matt was the first person you’d call if you needed advice, support, or a tool to borrow. He would drop anything to help others.
Friends and family may call on Wednesday (March 18th) from 4:00 – 7:00 PM at Vay-Schleich and Meeson, 1075 Long Pond Road, Rochester NY 14626. His Prayer Service will follow calling at 7:00 PM.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to The American Heart Association (https://www.heart.org/en/).
My sincere condolences, Brenda, and family. Matt was a very nice guy, and we were both Corvette fans.
So sorry to hear of Matt’s passing— we were supposed to get together in June for a P & C get together he will be missed!
My condolences, Matt and Brenda have helped me so many times throughout the years. He will be truly missed by so many.
Brenda and family, my sincere condolences on Matt’s passing. Please know I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers. 🙏
Matt was one of the guys that would help you do anything. Brenda and Matt invited all the neighbors
to their house many times. Matt would make sure you had a chair, a drink and that you could hear the music.
I know all the neighbors will miss Matt.
So sorry to hear of Matt’s passing! He was a good guy to work with! Thoughts & Prayers!
I worked with Matt in the 1980’s at P&C Foods, and I just heard of his passing. I have not seen him since I worked with him, but he is one person that I always remembered because he was such a kind and caring individual. Matt was one of the best employees I ever worked with. He would do anything asked of him and was always thinking of others. I’m sure that Matt’s family, friends, and all whose lives he touched will remember him in much the same way that I do, and I’m also sure that Matt’s spirt will live on forever in all of us. Rest in Peace, Matt – I miss you, kind sir. My sympathy to all of his family and friends that love him so much.
With deep sympathy,
– John Taylor

We were so sorry to hear of Matt’s passing. We were his neighbors in Macedon, and will always have fond memories of our backyard conversations. We knew him through ALL the years he was associated with his house on Southview.
He will truly be missed, but know that our memories of him will remain with us always.
Brenda, I am so sorry to hear of Matt’s passing. May his memory be a blessing to you and the family.
