Lester, Mary (formerly a sister of St. Joseph) died peacefully on September 29, 2013 at age 94. She was predeceased by her parents, Walter & Catherine Lester, brother Joseph C.Lester , (Mary Lou Gray) nephew Joseph W. Lester, and devoted friend Andre Lair. Survived by nephews Michael (Jan) Lester, Steven (Collier) Lester, Mary Jo Ellen (Stephen) Fisher, David (Amy) Lester and several nieces and nephews. Mary was also known as a teacher and librarian in the Rochester area and other Catholic schools in Upstate New York. The family would like to thank Mary’s friends for their friendship and support over the years. Donations may be made in her memory at your favorite charity. Her Memorial Mass will be celebrated Thursday (Oct. 10), 9 AM at Sacred Heart Cathedral. Private Interment Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.
My only contact with Mary was shortly after Andre died. She called and asked if R Community Bikes would be interested in ‘some parts’ for our bike program. Little did I know that she would be donating thousands of dollars worth of brand new parts to RCB!! In return, she wanted nothing, just grateful to have her house cleaned out!! She did not want a tax deduction or any kind of mention. We did anyway,naming our parts department ‘Andre and Mary’s Corner’ so we remember her fondly on a daily basis when we read the sign. She and Andre helped many of Rochester’s poorest better their lives through their donation. Not surprised she was an SSJ.

Mary brought a wonderful smile and loved her position at the Maplewood Community Library. She retired 3 years ago and she is still missed.
