Martha Odell Obituary ODELL, MARTHA FULLER – age 79, passed away peacefully at home Saturday, November 20, 2010. She was an active member of Cokesbury United Methodist Church in Knoxville, TN and Cashiers United Methodist Church in Cashiers, NC. Her joy and passion in life was to serve others. She was an active member of the Smoky Mountain Quilters of Tennessee and "Tuesday Quilting Bee". Many quilts for children were created with love and delivered to the Knoxville "Ronald McDonald House". Also a member of the Cashiers Quilters of Cashiers, North Carolina, she made "Quilts of Valor" which were delivered to Fort Bragg for wounded soldiers returning from overseas. She was active in service through AAUW and Cavett Station Chapter of DAR, as well as Martha Circle at Cokesbury United Methodist Church. A graduate of Purdue University with a Masters of Education from SUNY of New Paltz, NY she retired from teaching in 1990. While in college she joined Zeta Tau Alpha, and was a member of scholarship and honorary groups: Kappa Delta Pi, Alpha Lamda Delta, and Omicron Nu. Certified to teach Home Economics and English for grades K- 12, Martha taught at Cheboygan High School in Cheboygan, MI; West Side Middle School in Binghamton, NY; and Arlington Middle School in Poughkeepsie, NY. She was predeceased by her parents, Robert Nelson Fuller and Elsie Shedd Fuller of Mishawaka and West Lafayette, IN. She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Douglas A. Odell; daughters, Karen Odell; RD, of Knoxville, TN and Sharon Odell; MD, of Kennesaw, GA; son-in-law, John Crisp; grandson, Matthew Odell Clark and wife Jainie of Indianapolis, IN; granddaughter, Mindy Hite; DPT, and husband, Jake Hite of Dallas, Texas; granddaughter, Lauren Odell Crisp and grandson, Samuel Douglas Crisp of Kennesaw, GA; great grandson, Ethan Odell Clark of Indianapolis, IN; sister’s, Margaret Perkins of Basking Ridge, NJ and Jane Jackson of Venice, FL; nephew, Robert Perkins and wife Patrice of Morris Plains, NJ; niece, Susan Perkins and children Angela and Andrew Perkins; and niece, Leslie Pokres of Parrish, FL. The family will receive friends on Sunday, November 28, 2010 from 1:30 – 3:00pm followed by a Celebration of Life at 3:00pm in the sanctuary of Cokesbury United Methodist Church, 9919 Kingston Pike Knoxville, TN 37922. Martha requested in lieu of flowers for memorial donations to be made to Cokesbury United Methodist Church/Manna House. Cokesbury Manna House is a food bank for Knoxville area families in need.
