Marko Amidžić, 90, passed away on Friday, December 3, 2021. Marko was born January 15, 1931 in Bokšić to Josip and Kata Amidžić. He is survived by his wife Margita, daughter Maria (Thomas) Rotolo, son John, and two grandchildren, Shannon and Shawn. Marko met Margita Kovačić while he was still a young man. During their engagement, his favorite gift to receive from her was fresh cherries, which she would carefully select from a tree before visiting his parents house. His love for Margita and fruit trees continued throughout his life. After serving in the army in his home country, he married Margita on November 25, 1953. They welcomed their daughter Maria Biserka on October 10, 1954. The family made the journey to the United States in early 1960’s. Marko worked hard to provide for his family and attended night school to learn English. His son John was born March 28, 1963. Apart from the birth of his two children, one of Marko’s proudest moments was becoming a US citizen in 1970. He continued to work hard to support his family even after retirement, when he finally became a business owner himself, opening General Precision Machining in 1993. When he wasn’t completing projects for friends and customers, Marko, ever the inventor, could often be found in his shop working on a new idea or patent. Some of his best work included a wheelchair he designed specially for his son John, custom kitchen tools for Margita, and an innovative style of keychain that his grandchildren still carry with them every day, over 20 years later. Outside of the shop, Marko loved spending time with his family and friends, be preparing meat on the smoker for a small backyard barbecue under his treasured fruit trees with his son-in-law Tom, or at a large picnics, exchanging stories about news and happenings in Croatia and other nearby countries. He loved a good joke, and had a distinctive laugh that only grew with age. Marko’ s visitation will be held Sunday, December 12th, from 1-4 pm at Vay-Schleich and Meeson on 1075 Long Pond Road. His mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday, December 13th at 9:30 am at Sacred Heart Cathedral. Entombment, Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.
