Marie was a Registered Nurse and retired from St Ann’s Home. She started her career in the Nurse Cadet Corp, where she and many classmates attended Manhattanville College. After receiving her degree, Marie went on to serve as a public health nurse where she saw and took care of the destitute.
Marie was known for her charitable contributions, always thinking how she could help the poor and those in need. Her empathy was deeply rooted in her early days as a nurse.
Marie fiercely loved her family. She enjoyed their company and always made sure family birthdays were special as she considered it “their special day.”
We love you so much Mom and we are going to miss you like crazy. Especially, how you were always right, the way you couldn’t remember a thing even though you knew the names of every top golfer. The way you loved a good laugh and how you would be in tears laughing at something especially funny. And of course the way you could laugh like a witch to the delight of many. We love you MOM and KNOW you love us MORE!
Marie was a member of a bible study group that met at my Aunt Brenda Heeks’ home. My Mother Sue Heeks was also a member. I joined the group during my maternity leaves and got to know Marie well. She was a wonderful person who lived and loved her faith. I feel blessed to have prayed with Marie during this time. My heartfelt condolences to her family.
I will always remember Aunt Marie McCarthy’s awesome witch laugh. Even in her 80s, Aunt Marie would gladly give demos! We will always remember her laughing at jokes and stories, appreciating good humor, and being such a great sport! Aunt Marie will be truly missed.
Thank you so much. She was a great mom and she really “got” people. We are going to miss her immensely. I am so happy you got to know her. Much love. Mary Moloney
