Sister Margaret Mary Wintish, RSM (M. Gabriella) Brighton: Sister Margaret Mary Wintish , RSM age 87 was called home by her God, February 9, 2023 during her 70th year as a Sister of Mercy. Sister Margaret Mary, entered the Sisters of Mercy in 1953, after graduating from Our Lady of Mercy HS. She held a BA in English with a minor in History and an MS in Education. She then became permanently certified as a reading teacher. She taught in many Diocesan Catholic Schools before spending a year at Fajardo Catholic School in Puerto Rico. Preparing for the missions, Margaret Mary studied in language school in Cochabamba, Bolivia. She then served as a missionary in Santiago, Chili. Following her return to the US, she served as Religious Education Coordinator at Holy Redeemer/St. Michael Parishes, and as their Pastoral Assistant, then as Pastoral Assistant at St. Stephen’s, Geneva. Following a year of study in Clinical Pastoral Education, she became chaplain at St. Peter’s Hospital in Albany. Margaret Mary then became Pastoral Assistant at St. Vincent Medical Center in Jacksonville, Florida. Returning to Rochester, she was companion and chaplain at Wesley on East while also joining the prayer shawl ministry. She was predeceased by her parents & sister, Sister Mary Wintish, RSM. She is survived by her sister, Sister Barbara Joan Wintish, RSM, her brother & sister-in law, J. Peter & Debbie Wintish, and the Sisters of Mercy. Friends are invited Tuesday, February 14th at 9:15 AM for visitation followed by her Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM at Mercy Center Chapel. Interment will follow at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery. Margaret Mary Wintish, RSM (M.Gabriella) was a remarkable woman who dedicated her life to service and compassion. Her work with Vay-Schleich & Meeson demonstrated her commitment to helping others and advocating for their wellbeing. Through her efforts, she left a lasting impact on those she helped and inspired many others to follow in her footsteps.
