Linda Carol Jackson Evans, 1944 -2021 Linda was born during WWII in Columbus, Mississippi, to Lt. William Adelbert Jackson and Bernadine Marie Roach Jackson. Survived by her beloved best friend and husband of 55 years, Richard Kingsley Evans. She will be deeply missed by her children, Laura Kathryn Evans Szoczei (Miklos), William Richard Evans (Katarina); her four dear grandchildren, Jessica Lin Colmerauer, William Richard Colmerauer, Elena Margita Evans, and Juliana Linda Evans; her little sister, Cheryl Ann Jackson Poules (Jay), several cousins, nieces, nephews, and special friends. Besides the love and pride for her treasured family, teaching children was her most significant life accomplishment. She began as a Head Start teacher for Seneca Indian children and then a tutor for special needs children through BOCES #2. She continued as a substitute teacher in Gowanda, Webster, Spencerport, and Greece. For the next 30 years, Linda shined as a classroom teacher in kindergarten and grades one, three, four, and five at Kirk Road and West Ridge Schools in Greece, NY. She missed her "daily dose" of youthful smiles every day of her retirement. As a lifelong admirer of nature’s beauty, power, and tranquility, Linda has been a lifelong caretaker of wildlife and a committed environmentalist. She was an active member of the League of Women Voters’ environmental committee and the only woman and Democrat on the Town of Greece Environmental Board for 17 years. For decades, she supported the Sierra Club, Audubon Society, Nature Conservancy, and Greenpeace through volunteerism. Always seeking to make a positive difference in her community, serving others was a central part of who Linda was. As a busy young mother working full time and attending graduate school, Linda volunteered as a medic with the Spencerport Volunteer Ambulance Corps. She took much pleasure through her volunteer activities with the Town of Greece Historical Society, the Rochester Museum and Science Center docent program, and the RMSC Women’s Council. She spent countless hours as a volunteer caregiver at Greece’s Journey Home Hospice and was well-known to her family and friends for the dedicated yet gentle comfort she provided during troubled times. Music provided added joy to Linda’s life, and she played the flute in several local groups, including the Greece Community Orchestra, Greece Concert Band, Irondequoit Town Band, Hilton Gazebo Band, she sang alto with the Rochester Oratorio Society. Linda’s family hopes her legacy of giving lives on in those touched by her loving character and through the precious lessons she shared with everyone who knew her. In lieu of flowers, you’re invited to make donations in Linda’s name to Rochester’s Golisano Children’s Hospital or the Rochester chapter of the Sierra Club. The family will celebrate Linda on September 25 at a casual gathering of love and laughter. All are welcome to join in celebrating her at 75 Mill Road, Greece, NY (Rochester), 14626 from 1 p.m. until 6 p.m. Bring your memories.

Linda touched so many lives and the Greece area has lost a guiding light. Her students numbered in the thousands and are part of her remaining legacy. May she rest in peace knowing that Greece is a better place due to her being here.
Farewell my dear friend. There is consolation in knowing that your spirit lives on in those that you touched and and loved on this earth in a very special way. You will be missed by us all and we will pray for your kind gentle soul.

I feel so fortunate to have been a friend with Linda. The joy, love, and enthusiasm she shared lightened the load for many of her fellow teachers. She will be missed but knowing that she’s feeling no pain adds a small bit of comfort. My prayers are for her and for her family.

Everyone has a favorite teacher from elementary school. Mrs. Evans was mine. Honestly, she was my favorite out of every teacher I ever had. When I moved to Rochester in 1st grade she took the time to help me find my way. It wasn’t an easy task, but she never faltered in the mission she had set for herself. I was one of thousands of students whose lives she touched, but she always made me feel like I mattered to her. I only found out of her passing today and my heart is broken. If there ever was an angel that walked the earth it was her. Godspeed, Mrs. Evans. Thank you for all that you did for me and so many others. As long as we remember you and carry on the lessons you taught us you will live on forever.
I just heard of her passing and I wanted to pass along my most heart felt condolences. Mrs. Evans was the first teacher to notice the difficulties I was having in class, difficulties I had had since the beginning until I walked in to her 4th grade class the first year West Ridge Elementary opened. She went out of her way to find what I needed to help me hold a pencil in an attempt to improve my handwriting. She was the first teacher to bring in my parents to help find a solution to my whispered voice and restless and wandering feet during class, as well as other learning disabilities. I honestly believe that if not for her early intervention school would have been a much harder place. I have thought of her fondly over the years and am both surprised and delighted to read of the other loves and interests in her life. She will be surely missed.
