Libby was born August 28, 1928 in Rochester NY. She attended St. Lucy’s RC while growing up. Libby graduated from Madison High School (1946) and Rochester Business Institute (1947). Libby met the love of her life , Anthony (Chick) Palumbo in Rochester and was wed on September 23, 1950.  Libby was kept busy running the house and raising six children.  She was an excellent cook and especially good baker.  Many were very fond of her fresh pies: pumpkin with praline crust, apple, cherry with lattice top and especially strawberry pie with toasted almond crust and custard filling.  She would always bake two loaves of bread because the recipe said to freeze one. No chance- the first was gone shortly after exiting the oven, and the second disappeared at dinner.  Whenever Libby went to a picnic, she would have to hide the toffee bars she baked until it was time for desserts.

Libby’s love for the arts started young- learning piano and being in the high school play.  Later in life, Libby enjoyed doing things with friends: attending plays at Geva, visiting the Memorial Art Gallery, yoga and ballet. She was health conscious before it was a thing: attending Weight Watchers, making yogurt and getting exercise. Mom especially enjoyed and appreciated the care when Lisa came every Thursday the last two years. The family would like to thank Dr. Ragusa for the medical care provided to our mom- she had a better quality of life for which we are grateful.

Friends may call Friday (Dec. 27th) 3-7 PM at Vay-Schleich and Meeson , 1075 Long Pond Road. Libby’s Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday (Dec 28th) at 10:30 AM at Holy Cross Church, 4492 Lake Ave, Rochester, NY 14612. Interment, Holy Sepulchre Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Humane Society at Lollypop Farm or HUGS Foundation in her memory.

I’ve known her since June of 1970. In the fall of 1970 we bought a refrigerator which had to be delivered during the work day. Of course Libby volunteered to let the delivery man in. Typical Libby, we came home to find all the food from the old refrigerator put into the new one and cleaned the inside so we could still use it if we wished. We kept it another 25 or so years as a basement refrigerator. There were many other things she did because she hardly knew us. I would add that Mark was still a baby so she had to care for him while she was helping us. What a welcome to the neighborhood. I still live in that house! My thoughts and prayers go out to Libby and her entire , huge, family.
