Goodbye, Uncle Len – say hello to Aunt Mary and Sherry and Bobby and all the others for me. Lord, take care of his family.
So sorry for your loss!! He is at peace now!! God bless you all!!
To the entire Viccaro family, my deepest sympathies on Lens (Pops) passing. He was one of the good guys because he actually cared about the well being of the North Greece Fire Department and FD family. Having known him for over 50 years has been an honor. He was always a welcome sight at any North Greece event. He always treated me with respect and dignity and it was music to my ears as he always addressed me as ‘Chief’ whenever/wherever we met. I am grateful to have been able to call him a friend. I know how much he missed his beloved Mary and they can now be together again. He will be missed.
Dear Viccaro Family, It was a pleasure knowing Len for 18 years. He was my White Birch friend. We had many great talks, and I learned a lot from him. I miss him very much and will think of him often. So now he is were he told me that he wanted to be with his Wife. God bless you all Fondly Dick and Kathy B #4
Keeping your family in our thoughts and prayers during this difficult time. He is at peace and will always be with you. God Bless xoxo
Patty and I extend our sincere sympathy to the entire Viccaro family. I first met Len when he joined North Greece FD in August of 1964 and we became good friends. Working at Tobin Meat Packing on Maple Street – famous for their hot dogs, Len was impressed with his first NGFD social event held in the ball room at Hotel DeMay, a FD hangout. ‘Southern Tier Wild Beef’ was served and he loved it. He went on to become very active, elected lieutenant, working with training and many committees. Len was part of our winning 1966 Championship Bowling Team at Jamestown, NY. On drill nights we could always expect Tobin hot dogs grilled by Len himself. He loved wearing his white uniform as an official with the NYS Drill Team Captains Association. In recent years he was part of our NGFD geezer breakfast gang Thursday mornings at Long Pond Family Restaurant. One day he took a nose-dive on the sidewalk, and since then it’s been known as ‘Lenny’s Memorial Sidewalk.’ Wintering in Green Valley, AZ, he constantly sent me newspaper clippings of GVFD activities where he was always a welcome visitor. And so a giant of a guy has left us. We are better for having Len Viccaro in our lives. He is now firmly settled with his beloved Mary in heaven setting the rules and cooking those hot dogs. Rest easy old pal, job well done.
Our heartfelt sympathies go out to the Viccaro Family- and ALL the grandchildren and great-grandchildren of this amazing man.
Mr. Viccaro was the beginning of a lifelong connection between the Vicarro and the Pisarek families of Rochester, NY. He was the Scout Master at St. Peter and Paul Church and my dad, George Pisarek, was his Assistant Scout Master. My parents met because of the Boy Scout/Girl Scout meetings! My father told wonderful stories of the love and laughter at the Vicarro house, with Mary Vicarro ‘cooking for the entire neighborhood’ and never turning anyone away (‘just another plate of pasta’). My father entered the Air Force and we were stationed all over the world, but Rochester was always ‘home’.
We met Mr. Vicarro again when my Dad was stationed in Hawaii, and he and his wife came for a vacation with their daughter Connie and her husband Ron. That was 1973 and we have been close ever since! Connie became my best friend and Matron of Honor at my wedding. Mr. and Mrs. Viccaro also came to my wedding and boy! was it an Italian celebration…. complete with streamers, dancing, laughter and love.
I was lucky enough to be in Rochester during the holidays and enjoy the honor of sitting at his family table for the feast that was ‘Thanksgiving’, complete with soup, pasta and turkey!
The love and laughter of an Italian family is what makes celebrations so special, and Mr. Vicarro, the patriarch, knew how to celebrate LIFE. His selfless dedication to his community through his many years with the North Greece Fire Dept. reflected how much he cares for others. He passed on that tradition of giving back to your community through his sons/son-in-law and grandson who also serve in Rochester Fire Departments.
We honor the life of Mr. Vicarro and the great legacy of family and friends who knew and loved him.
Matthew 25:21 ‘His master replied, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Come and share your master’s happiness!’
Sending my deepest sympathy to cousin Leonard’s family, the last of our Viccaro and Villone family’s generation from San Mauro.
I am Alfred’s daughter and your Uncle Mickey was very active with my father at Doud Post. His family originally lived on Prospect Street and attended St. Peter and Paul’s and St. Lucy’s.
I remembering having lunch with Mary and Leonard at Alfred’s sister, Aunt Rose DiRienzo’s house where Leonard told us stories about him, Mickey and Roselle. They were in for a visit from Arizona and it was the one and only time I got to meet my lovely cousins!
So sad to lose this last link to this generation of our family. My father Dad (Leonard’s 1st cousin) died back in 1999 and I Know that I would give anything to have just one more holiday meal with him and his family. The best that we can do is treasure the memories and remember their stories!
I have many happy memories of Leonard from my first parish up the road from the . family at St. Lawrence to the present. He proudly signed me up in my first Fire Department at North Greece in 1968. May he rest in peace with the Lord and family. I will be at another funeral in Webster but will be with you in spirit.
