Rochester, NY~ Lawrence (Larry) Timothy Buckley, age 73, passed away suddenly in his home on March 16th, 2026. Larry is survived by his wife of 39 years, Janice T Buckley (although had been close friends for 52 years) and his son William L Buckley. He is predeceased by his parents, William Ward Buckley and Joyce Hinkelman Buckley, and beloved brother-in-law William R Then. Larry is survived by his brother Robert Buckley (Rene) of San Antonio, Texas and his sister Marcia Buckley (Mark Lembke) of Lexington, Kentucky. He would want everyone to know how much he loved his nephews in San Antonio, Brandon Buckley (Nathalya Snell) and Jacob Buckley (Abby), as well as his niece and nephew in Rochester, Lisa Then and William J Then.
Larry joined the US Navy following high school, settling back in Rochester where he worked with whom he would describe to be the best co-workers at DuPont, ITT Automotive, and Valeo. To say Larry loved fast cars (think Chevy SS cars: Chevy Nova SS, Chevy Chevelle SS) so much so that he named his dog “Chevy” would be an understatement. Actually, any type of muscle car would pique his interest and start a conversation sure to entertain the listener. However, perhaps Larry will be remembered most for his staunch love of the Oakland Raiders (even after they became the Las Vegas Raiders!). Locally, Larry watched the Rochester Americans Hockey Team whenever he could and would post instant messages to family and friends updating them on the score throughout the game; actually, if you had a favorite team of any sport, and if Larry knew that, he found great joy in texting you, endlessly keeping you up to the moment about how that game was going!
Larry just loved life. He treasured his family and friends more than anything else. He asked for very little and needed very little. If it were 20 degrees and he only had one shirt, if you needed it, he would immediately take it off and give it to you. Those who know him best know that his greatest joys came from time with family as well as finding the perfect gift for those he loved. His primary care physician said that despite all he had to endure physically, he always showed up at appointments with a big smile on his face, never letting his health factor into his desire to live a happy life; he never complained, he was always gracious and thankful for kindnesses shown that many take for granted. As his best friend and spouse Jan stated, “Larry lived life colorfully!”
The family would like to extend sincere thanks to Dr Thomas Carroll MD, PhD, his internist at University of Rochester, Strong Internal Medicine, for his care, concern, and willingness to leave no stone unturned when trying to help Larry. His family believes if not for Dr Carroll, Larry’s life would have been much different.
