Rochester, NY; Passed away peacefully in the presence of family on March 7, 2025, at age 62. Predeceased by her parents, Leo and Marian Hayes. Kathleen is survived by her loving and devoted family; Sisters and brothers-in-law: Sheila (Gerard) Reynolds, Maureen (Ralph) Barnes; her wonderful nieces and nephews: Rachel Barnes, Alanna (Sean) Meritt, Adam Barnes, Sarah (Nick) Mostarda, Stephen (Rachel) Reynolds; her great nephews and niece: Everett Leo, Levi Joseph, and Holly Marilyn; her uncles Richard (Rita) Krakowski, Grant (Cheri) Krakowski; and many cousins.  She also leaves behind nurturing staffs and special friends from Holy Childhood and her group home, as well as her wonderful care coordinator Val, for which her family will be forever grateful. 

Kathleen will miss you all very much and please know she holds a special place in her heart for each of you who made her 62 year journey a beautiful one. Kathleen led a fully active life. She attended Holy Childhood for over 50 years. She competed in the Special Olympics including winning a gold medal at the International level in swimming. She participated in golf and bowling leagues. Kathleen had a passion for many sports, her favorites being the Yankees and many of the local teams and their mascots. Kathleen loved her family and was very involved in their celebrations and travel. She is and will continue to be profoundly missed.

Friends may call Thursday (March 13th) 11:00 AM – 12:00 noon at Vay Schleich & Meeson, 1075 Long Pond Road, with her Prayer Service immediately following at 12:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Holy Childhood, 100 Groton Parkway, Rochester, NY 14623.

    Kathy was one of God’s special angels😇. She was sent to a loving, caring family that gave her a wonderful life. Condolences to Sheila, Maureen and their families.

    Oh how I will miss my beautiful niece. I’ll miss her uncanny knowledge of sports, specially the NY Yankees. The sneaky way she would give me “rabbit ears” when I would take a selfie with her. I loved the sly smile when she would say something snarky. When I would tell her a joke she had a way of laughing that was more like “ raspberries “. Squirt, as I called her had many nicknames for me, giraffe legs was her favorite. Kathleen was an incredible young lady. She will be sorely missed by me and countless others. RIP Squirt, I love you.

    Kathy’s light and smile will forever shine bright in the hearts of those who knew and loved her. Our sincerest sympathies to Sheila, Maureen and families, and also to the caregivers who provided Kathy with joy and friendship.
