Mercier, Joseph A. Greece, NY. Monday, November 13, 2017 at age 93. Survived by his loving wife of 70 years, Helen C. Mercier and eight children and spouses, Mary Anne (Christopher Martin), Jeanne Attridge, Terre Mercier (Mark Tardiff), Anne Mercier (Gregory Kitt), Mark, Paul (Karen), Margaret Mary Mercier (Scott Martelle), Stephen (Catherine). Joe was proud of his 17 grandchildren, Adam (Wenmin), Luke (Katherine), Amy (John), Dan (Stefanie), Jill (Jeff), Karin (Andy), Terrette, Cielle, Sara, Alex (Jess), Sebastian (Katie), Dylan (Laura), Michael, Andrew, Zachary, James and Anna. Joe was delighted to share special moments with his 11 great grandchildren, Kai and Ethan, Emily and Christina, Robert and Matthew, Alison and Ryan, Olivia and Thomas, and Amelia; his sister, Peggy Verschelden from St. Mary’s, Kansas and many nieces, nephews and dear friends. Joe worked at Eastman Kodak as a Mechanical Engineer for 37 years and retired in 1983. After retirement, Joe continued to be very active at Our Lady of Mercy Church where he was a founding member. He was also a member of many parish and Diocesan committees. He was a lector and Eucharistic Minister at Our Lady of Mercy Church and St. Charles Borromeo Church, a F.I.S.H. (Friends in Service Here) volunteer, a chairperson at Notre Dame Retreat House and a member of the Nocturnal Adoration Society. Joe had a passion for woodworking and made beautiful, artful creations for his family and his church. He loved trains, enjoyed doing Crossword Puzzles and Jumbles and loved golfing, cooking and playing games with family (and enjoyed a good martini). He was an avid photographer and gardener- his pride and joy were his dahlias and dogwood trees. The family would like to thank all the doctors and nurses who provided loving care to Joe over many years. Friends may call Friday (Nov 17th) 3-7 PM at Vay-Schleich and Meeson Funeral Home, 1075 Long Pond Road. His Funeral Mass will be celebrated Saturday (Nov 18th) 11:00 AM at St. Charles Borromeo Church. Interment, Holy Sepulchre Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Holy Childhood or St. Charles Borromeo Church in his memory. For more information, or to sign Joe’s online guestbook, please visit Meesonfamily.com.
Dad, you were the best Dad any child could ask for and the most loving, loyal husband to Mom. The childhood memories I have will stay in my heart forever. You were a true gentle man and your strong faith was something I always admired. You were strong and brave until the end. I will treasure all the childhood stories and memories we have shared, especially recently, as we cleaned out your home of 66 years. I will forever be grateful that my 4 children and 7 grandchildren had the privilege of growing up with amazing role models in you and Mom. I will talk to you every day and know you will guide and support me and my family as we go through life. I love you so much, Dad. xoxo
Dear Jeanne and family, I can’t begin to tell you how sorry I am for your loss. Your Father, Husband, Grandfather and Great-Grandfather sounded like a wonderful man. I know you will all miss him, but dwell on all the good times your family has had. Your family is one in a million. You are all in my thoughts and prayers. Fly with the angels Mr. Mercier.

Joe Mercier was kind, smart and humble. He was truly lived by all who knew him and will greatly be missed.I grieve for you and your family.
Joe was the perfect example of a loving and generous father and husband. I had the privilege and honor to be a guest in his home and treasure my memories of playing games at the kitchen table and sharing good laughs. The Mercier family is in my prayers!
To the Warm and Wonderful Rochester Mercier Family, May Uncle Joe’s gentle and loving spirit be in your hearts and console you as you grieve his physical departure. He and your family always made guests and new family members feel welcomed and loved. I’ll especially remember his wry sense of humor, love of puns and wordplay. He and your Uncle Jack, my much-loved father-in-law, are probably sharing quips now. My favorite charades song that Jack Mercier put into a game and that I had to act out keeps going through my mind. Uncle Joe, ‘I’ve Got Tears in my Ears from Lyin’ on my Back Cryin’ my Eyes Out Over You.’ I wish I could be with you all to remember, laugh, cry, smile and celebrate an amazing gentleman. Special hugs to his sweetheart, Aunt Helen
