My deepest sympathies on John’s passing. I have been the recreation coordinator at St. Bernard’s since its opening and have known John the entire time of his participating in our program. I very much enjoyed his intelligence, and mostly his sense of humor. What an interesting man. He always had something to say about some political figure or something that was going on in the world. We laughed about the article in the Alfred-Almond paper about the U.S. Cole ship being docked at the Naval base in Horseheads! He always saw the humorous side of things. In the past year or so I gave him magazines Scientific American. His eyes would light up when he saw those! As I look at his start day here at program, it was 1997, one year after we opened…I’ve known him all that time! He will truly be missed here, and all the staff here is sharing fond memories of him. God Bless all of you, and know that he holds a very special place in our hearts here at St. Bernard’s Adult Day Program.

This wonderful, caring person was my grandpa. Me and my cousins always called him ‘Pa.’ I hope you are safe in heaven and watching over me and my family. Hey Pa are you up in the hills or down in the valley because that’s the question you always asked me when I would leave. I would always say I was up in the hills and now your up in heaven. We are all thinking of you. Love you, Grace
