    Dear Mom,

I am proud to be your son. You gave me the gift of life, and taught me the hard lessons of self discipline, honesty, an earnest work ethic and the necessary life skills in order to succeed in today’s world.

If it wasn’t for you, I never would have completed my Eagle Scout award, I never would have gotten a 4 year ROTC scholarship to Syracuse University, I never would have served in the USAF, I never would have been a pilot, and I never would have met Mary Ana. All these things you gave me.

I know in my heart that you are reunited with Dad, Ellen and Kevin, and that you are finally at peace. I have learned that through the love of our Lord Jesus Christ flows Grace. From his Grace comes Redemption. From Redemption flows Salvation. From Salvation comes Freedom from our sins. From Freedom comes Peace. From Peace comes life everlasting.

    Peace be with you forever.

I love you and will miss you always.

    Your loving Son,

    Butch

I was looking up Ellen and found this about your Mom. I had gone to FC with your sister and lived down the road from you guys on Santa Drive. Remembering you had the first room on the right as you walk into the house? I’m so sorry you have such a lose with your family. I read about Kevin but I did not find anything about Ellen.. My thoughts and prayers are with you. I know you may never see this. God bless, Valerie

To Joan Gilbert: Thanks to you and to your dogged determination you have given us a wonderful, talented, loving, and faithful son-in-law. There could not have been a better match for our daughter Mary Ana as a life partner. Their shared interest in aviation was the first thing that drew them together. Your insistence on those hard lessons of self discipline and all the things you taught Butch made their meeting possible. We believe that when Butch decided to join the Church, your guiding hand, even though it was in his distant past was there to help him make that decision.
We thank you for giving us Butch who in word and deed continually tells us he loves us and we love him in return. That love extends to you as his mother. Raising your family was not easy. You have borne your crown of thorns, now may you rest in the peace of Christ forever.
