Although I did not know Jan for a long time, I knew her well enough to recognize her gentleness and genuine interest in and concern for others. When I visited her in hospice with a couple of other friends a little more than a week ago, even though she was very weak and tired, she looked at me and asked how my trip to California was and how my daughter was feeling. Even at this point in her life, she was still concerned about someone else. This kind and unselfish gesture I will never forget. Jan, may God reward you for all the kindness you have shown to others during your lifetime.

Another dear St. Mary’s classmate gone.I recall the fun times we had at St. Mary’s, then working together at the Red Cross–so many years ago. Janet was always sweet, kind and patient, with a great sense of humor. Rest in peace, Janet- Marilyn Bonadio

Hello, I worked with Janet at Monroe County Health Department aa community health nurse, most recently in Rochester City Schools. We shared the love of nursing and caring for children. I feel she gave something of herself and those she touched were better for her care.

I am sorry that I am not able to make it to Jan’s Memorial Service. I have guests coming from out of town that morning. I will always have warm memories of Jan. I knew her because we played cards together and she was a very good player with great card sense. Her presence will be missed at the euchre table. I plan to do many good deeds in her memory, just as she did when she was with us. A kind soul is never forgotten, so, Jan, we will remember you.

It’s so difficult to imagine my life without Jan in it. She taught me how to live each day like there was no tomorrow. I’m in awe of all the places we went and things we accomplished over the past 20 years. I will honor her memory by continuing on with the same energy and passion for life she showed me. Puffin and I will miss her every day for the rest of our lives. However, I also feel her presence around us. It’s comforting to know we’ll meet again someday and now she knows that too.

Jan was a great friend and super card player! I met her through Barb Nagel and Marlene TeeBoon several years ago. At first I thought she was very quiet and shy, but as I got to know her I found she had a great wit and sense of humor, as well as great card instincts. I was always glad to know that chance had paired us up as partners. Jan was also a great hostess, whenever we had our card day at her home, we knew we would have great food and a caring person to share it. I will miss Jan and will keep her and Chris in my prayers. Janet had great class, poise and dignity. She listened better than anyone I’ve ever known. She had a brilliant mind and was always doing things for others. We have been friends for over 40 years. I will miss you so very much but I do have such wonderful memories. Goodbye my friend. You will live in my heart forever.

Janet Ryan was kind, gentle, thoughtful, intelligent, beautiful and, oh yes, very neat. Although she was my baby sister, I couldn’t begin to count the number of times I wished I were more like her (especially the neat part). My son John and I were able for a few days to visit Janet and Chris last Spring. Janet took us on a tour of the Lilac Festival and one of my lasting memories of her will be taking her picture while she was happy and smiling surrounded by the beautiful blossoms. While I was remembering Janet this poem by Leigh Hunt came to mind.. Janet kissed me when we met, Jumping from the chair she sat in; Time, you thief, who love to get Sweets into your list, put that in: Say I’m weary, say I’m sad, Say that health and wealth have missed me, Say I’m growing old, but add Janet kissed me. Janet was a kind and gentle person and will be missed by many. During the three years we lived with Janet while students at St. Mary’s we knew her as a caring and knowledgeable nurse. Our prayers and thoughts are with the family during this time. With sincere sympathy, Peggy Wolford Graf & Lynn Dietz Antalek

Janet was a terrific school nurse. She added a lot of professional expertise. Janet was very enthusiastic about her work and a joy to have as a colleague. May you rest in peace, knowing she meant a lot to many people. Mary Beth Schlabach

Unfortunately I didn’t know Janet real well but did have the pleasure of being in her company at several social gatherings and she was always soft spoken, gentle and caring. My heartfelt sympathy goes out to the family, good friends and especially Chris who were with her the final days on earth. She was very lucky to have family and such good friends that stood by her!

We would always stay with my Aunt Janet when we visited Rochester. She always made room. I remember eating my first english muffins while staying with her. She lived a good life. We will miss her.
