Bertola, Genevieve F. ‘Jean’ Parkdale, OR: passed away peacefully in her sleep on March 28th, 2017 at her families home in Mt. Hood Parkdale, OR at the age of 89. Jean was born on February 26, 1928 in Rochester, NY to Valentine and Valerie Strojna. She was the 2nd youngest of 9 children. Jean received a Nursing degree on May 28, 1948. She met Emanuel ( Manny ) R. Bertola when she was 7 years old, and he being 9. They formed a bond which lasted a lifetime. She waited for him as he went off to serve in WWll , and upon his return, they married. They remained married for 65 years until her beloved husbands passing on July 3, 2013. Jean leaves behind her 3 children, grandchildren, and great grand children. Valerie Gryzmkowski ( Dennis ), Alexis and Marissa ( Eric ) , Wayne Bertola( Gina ) Timothy ( Jaclyn ) Aiden, Matthew ( Matthew ), Timothy and Matthews mother Amy Kujawsky. Karen Howe ( Dennis ), Cody ( Laura ), Mila and Roman. Cheyanne. Chalice. Sister Rita Baker, and brother Edward Strojna. She also leaves behind many beloved nieces, nephews, their children, and many friends. Jean was very active in her community, and her Church. She was extremely passionate about her nursing. She touched many lives. She furthered her nursing education in her later career while raising her family. She and her beloved Manny became snowbirds after their retirement for many years, returning to the place of their honeymoon , Daytona Beach, for over 20 years. She loved her family, her Church family, reading, gardening, Wegmans, traveling, the sun, swimming, politics, and celebrating! Friends may call Friday (April 7 th ) 4-7 at Vay-Schleich and Meeson Funeral Home, 1075 Long Pond Road, Rochester, NY 14626. Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated Saturday (April 8 th ) 10:00 AM at St. Lawrence Church, 1000 N. Greece Road. Entombment, Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.
