Bour, Eugene R. ‘Gene’ Greece: January 28, 2017. Gone to be with his loving, devoted wife of 58 years, Sally Ann Bour (Mandeville). Predeceased by parents, Arthur J. Bour & Ruth Stuck Bour; brother, Arthur Bour. Survived by children, Donna Bour (Trevor) Purdy, Charles (Daria) Bour, Sandy (Kirk) Leister, Tim (Donna) Bour, Judy (Mark) Taylor; grandchildren, Christopher Purdy, Ann Marie Purdy, Charlie (Mary) Bour, Kyle Bour, Nathan (Barbara) Leister, Kristen (Bobbie) Linaberry, Jonathan Leister, Stephanie (David) Broussard, Jenny Bour, Melissa Bour, Ian Taylor, Alison Taylor; great grandchildren, Lila and Julian Bour (Charlie and Mary), Aida Marie Linaberry (Kristen and Bobby); sisters-in-law Jane Bour, Mildred Mandeville; brother in-law, Raymond (Olga) Mandeville; loving dog Patrick, many dear nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and neighbors. A lifelong resident of Greece, NY, Gene attended Barnard Elementary School and was a 1948 graduate of Edison Technical High School where he was active in Football, Wrestling, and Glee club. He served as a Sergeant in the US Army during the Korean War. Gene served his community for 56 years as a member of the Barnard Fire Department. His association began in 1945 as a member of the Barnard Fire Department marching band. After returning from the military, he continued in many positions including Chief from 1969-1970. Gene served as Commissioner for the Barnard Fire District from 1970 through 2001. He held leadership positions in the Monroe County Fire District’s Officers Association, Greece Fire District Officers Association, Western New York Fire District Officers Association; was a member of the Monroe County Fire Advisory Board and a Charter member of the 911 Operating Practice Board; a member of Barnard Firemen’s Exempts and Greece American Legion Post 468 and a lifelong member of Bethany Presbyterian Church. Retired from Rochester Telephone Company after 43 years, his favorite memory was the day he met the love of his life, Sally, while on a job in Retsof, NY. Gene’s quick wit, willingness to lend a hand and love for his family and friends will be missed by all who knew him. Friends may call on Wednesday, February 1st from 4-8 at Vay-Schleich & Meeson Funeral Home, 1075 Long Pond Road, Rochester, NY 14626. His Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, February 2nd at 10:00 AM at Bethany Presbyterian Church, 3000 Dewey Avenue. Entombment, Riverside Cemetery.
