Elizabeth “Betty” Marie Brown, beloved sister, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully at her home on Saturday, March 7th, just shy of her 93rd birthday. Born on April 19, 1933, in Rochester, NY, Betty lived a life defined by generosity, kindness, and unwavering devotion to her family and friends.

She is survived by her sister, Virginia Boehm; her son, Jim Brown, and daughter-in-law, Teresa Galbier. She leaves behind her cherished grandchildren: Nicole Bird, Benjamin (Haliegh) Brown, Paul (Carra) Brown, Gianna (Peter) Hilton, and Christina Stewart (Karis Gregory); as well as her many beloved great-grandchildren: George Stanton (Lilli Follett), Finnegan Bird, Philip Brown, Melody Brown ,Gavin Brown, Nicholas Brown, Dominic Brown, Emmilina Brown, Liam Brown, Mason Brown, Lincoln Brown, and Nico Hilton.

Known lovingly to many as Grandma Brown, Betty was a constant source of support and pride for all her “kids.” She rarely missed a sporting event, school function, award ceremony, concert, or theater performance—if someone she loved was involved, she was there. She treasured her weekly bowling nights and held her “bowling girls” close to her heart, considering them a second family. Betty also enjoyed her routine trips to the hairdresser, farmers markets, local bakeries, and garden shops.

Her home was a warm and welcoming haven. No one ever left hungry, and Betty’s love was often expressed through her cooking. She hosted every holiday for decades, joyfully opening her doors to family, friends, and anyone who needed a place to belong.

Betty is predeceased by her husband, Paul Brown. Married for many years before Paul’s passing in 2020, the two first met on the carousel at Seabreeze and were married on November 17th, 1951. They spent their lives adventuring together—taking spontaneous weekend drives and enjoying annual trips to the State Fair, Amish markets, German restaurants, and even their favorite fireworks stores in Pennsylvania.

Due to the pandemic in 2020, Paul’s funeral service was abruptly canceled. It was Betty’s long-held wish that Paul receives a proper service, and in honoring that wish, we will be celebrating the lives of both Paul and Betty in a joint service.

A service for Betty and Paul will be held on Friday (March 20th) at 12 PM at Trinity Episcopal Church, 3450 W. Ridge Road in Greece, NY. They will be laid to rest together at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery East in the Angels of God Columbaria following the church.

For over 23 years I was a witness to the love Betty gave and recieved to her family and friends. Her devotion never waivered, and seeing how so many loved her showed me how wonderful of a person she was.

There will be a void in our lives with her passing….another from “the greatest generation” has left us.

    RIP Betty….you did good.

I loved Betty and her whole family. The first time I came to to Rochester in 2000 they all treated me like their own family.
We had great times together. One couldn’t be around Betty and Ginny without having a good time. Sweet family, I love you all and so did Vito.
