I remember visiting Betty Ann (Sister)so many years ago with my Aunt Collette at Norbie and Lucille Vay’s while I also visited Agnes Vay and my godfather, Kenny Schleich out on Maple St..May she rest in peace in the arms of her Angel.

I am Mary Jane Lenhard’s oldest child. It is one of my many failings that I have not kept more in touch with the extended family. I remember yearly visits to Rochester during my childhood. I was a little afraid of Betty Ann and Lucille in their habits, but I soon learned they had hearts of gold. Later in life, my wife used to correspond regularly with Betty Ann before they both became ill. Maybe 15 years ago, Betty Ann sent a clipping that read:

    CALMNESS IN OUR LIVES

I am passing this on to you because it definitely works, and we could all use a little more calmness in our lives. By following simple advice heard on the Dr. Phil show, you too can find inner peace. Dr. Phil proclaimed, “The way to achieve inner peace is to finish all the things you have started and have never finished.”

So, I looked around my house to see all the things I started and hadn’t finished, and before leaving the house this morning, I finished off a bottle of white Zinfandel, a bottle of Bailey’s Irish Cream, a package of Oreos, the remainder of my old Prozac prescription, the rest of the cheesecake, some Doritos, a box of chocolates and a half bottle of scotch.

You have no idea how good I feel right now.
Pass this on to those whom you think might be in need of inner peace.

I guess she thought it was funny.
    So did I.

Betty Anne Lenhard was one of the brightest and smartest kids at Holy Cross School in our Class of 1947. She was remarkable for her personality and intelligence. Over the years I have often thought about our Holy Cross class and the kids who were in our class. One of our classmates became a Maryknoll priest and is now back in the Rochester area. I think I can name most of our class to this day – after all these years. Betty Ann comes out on the top. I still have contact with two of our classmates and wish i could have re-connected with her. She was greatly admired by my classmates. May she rest in peace

Betty Anne was my Mother’s sister. (Mary Jane Baumann). We live in Ohio but through the years growing up we visited my Mom and Dad’s relatives in New York. After my mother died in 2008 I would come with my Dad to visit with Betty Anne and Dawn and her brother(Uncle) Bill and family because they were a part of my mother and I felt close to her visiting with them. I enjoyed our time at the lake eating Abbotts custard and riding the carousel. Betty Ann was able to tell me stories about my mother’s childhood growing up near the lake. After my Dad(Dick Baumann) died in 2019 my husband Joe and my daughter Kayla would try to visit Betty Anne and Dawn every year. August of 2023 was our last visit. I have such great memories of my Aunt Betty Anne. I loved her lots and I will miss her very much.

I am the middle child of Mary Jane Baumann (Lenhard), Betty Anne’s sister. My first memory of my Aunt Betty Anne is taking walks with her and our Aunt Lucille when we visited our Grandma Lenhard in the 1960s.. I vaugely remmember walks around the block, our grandmother’s rose garden, and a small goldfish pond. Funny how certain things stick in your memory. I can remember being mesmorized by the black habits which nuns wore at the time. When we were schoolchildren, Aunt Betty Anne and Aunt Lucille would always send us presents for Christmas. Of course, they would always be school supplies as opposed to toys !
She would always come to family weddings, regardless of which state the wedding was in. She often visited our parents throughout the years and she and Dawn always enjoyed our parents swimming pool ! I especially appreciate how she and Dawn came and stayed with our father for a week after our mother’s passing. He was so appreciative of that.
She was one of the most loving, and kind people I have ever known and I will miss her.
