Eleanor B. Betlem Greece: Tuesday, March 12, 2019 at age 93. Predeceased by beloved husband, Frederick Betlem; son, David Betlem; daughter, Paula Betlem; brother, Frederick Bonnet. Survived by daughter-in-law, Anne Betlem; grandson, Todd (Chrissy) Betlem; granddaughter, Deborah (Keith) Anderson; great-grandson, Kaelan Anderson; brother, Paul Bonnet; many nieces, nephews and dear friends. After graduating from Suny Geneseo Eleanor taught in the Greece School District for over 35 years, where she became known as “The Management”. Eleanor was a dedicated teacher and made many friends; we never went anywhere that she didn’t run into a former student or parent. She was fearless in stating her opinions. Eleanor was a fantastic cook and shared her talent with family and friends often. She had a jest for life, enjoying her family, sewing, bridge, travel, theatre, Syracuse Basketball and the Arts. We will miss her quick wit and infectious laugh. Friends may call Friday (March 22nd) 4-7 PM at Vay-Schliech and Meeson, 1075 Long Pond Road, where her family prayers will be held at 7:00 PM. Private Interment. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Heart Association in her memory. I am so sorry to hear of Eleanor’s passing. She was a great lady with a wonderful sense of humor. I will miss her dearly. Glad I got to speak with her a couple of weeks ago. I’m in Florida and won’ Be able to come to calling hours. My thoughts and prayers are with you.
My condolences to Eleanor’s Family. She was certainly a wonderful, caring person who was a joy to teach with and a kind person who I was glad to call a friend. She always called a spade a spade, but was always right in the advice she had to offer. She was one of the true dedicated teachers I worked with over the years and was always available to offer a helping hand to others! She always remembered all her students by name over all the years she worked with them. She was a loyal friend to others and kind to the core. A great lady that had a long wonderful life!
Sorry I’m not in Rochester to celebrate the life of Eleanor . I have such wonderful memories of working with her at Lakeshore Elementary School. I will always remember her as a fun person. Rest In Peace Eleanor.
Eleanor was our wonderful neighbor at Chapel Oaks. She brightened her surroundings with her warm greetings, witty perceptive comments, and bright smile. I’m so glad we had so many chances to spend time with Eleanor. She made the world a better place. We send love and prayers and will miss Eleanor tremendously.
I would just like to express my sympathy to your family. I had Mrs. Betlem for my third grade teacher at Craig Hill, 55 years ago. She is a teacher I remember that we had fun but also learned a lot. Whenever I get a compliment on my handwriting, I say, well I can thank Mrs.Betlem my third grade teacher!
Eleanor will be sorely missed by her friends at Chapel Oaks. We enjoyed playing Bridge and Euchre together as well as other activities. Her factual comments made her who she was and I respected her. Miss you dear lady and may you be united with the family you so loved.

My sister and I were very sad to learn of Mrs. Betlem’s passing. Our sympathy to all of her family. Mrs. Betlem was our third grade teacher at Barnard School some 65 years ago. She always made learning a fun and rewarding process which helped form the habits that guided our successes in life. She had a great spirit and passion in everything she did. Her impact on our lives will never be forgotten. Thoughts and prayers are with her family.
