Anyone who knew Eddie knew he lived his life to the fullest. Enjoying people, music, travel, soccer, and vodka! He came to America from Kiev with his family when he was a child. He was able to find work using his musical talents to perform his accordion when he was just a young boy. With his love of music he earned his bachlors Degree from SUNY Fredonia and his masters from the Eastman School of Music which led him to become a Music Teacher with the Rochester City School District for 26 years. If you had the pleasure of being in his class or seeing him in action you might remember him marching around his room leading his kids with his singing and accordion playing. His enthusiasm and cheerful personality was infectious. You may have had the pleasure of attending a performance by one of his students choruses or of his band at a variety of public events as well as private parties and the Ukrainian festival. Being a teacher also allowed him the freedom to spend time with his family which he cherished. They we are able to travel and go camping all over the US as children and and even had the pleasure of traveling on cruises as adults. He was an amazing husband, father and grandfather. He also had a passion for soccer that never diminished. When he attended Benjamin Franklin HS they didn’t have a team, he worked, gathered students and was able to form the fist soccer team there. If there was an opportunity to watch, play or coach soccer he would. Coaching his son Micheal through his youth who then continued the legacy. Ed and wife Julie were a staple on the sidelines cheering his granddaughters on with them rarely missing a game in the 17 years they have been playing. Do to the present circumstances with Covid 19, we are unable to have more than 10 people attend his services and pay their respects. As you are probably aware, Ed suffered from Alzheimers for years. If you would like, we would ask that in lieu of flowers please donate any amount of money here to be given to the Alzhemiers Association. Hopefully one day they can find a cure for this terrible disease. Thank You, The Machonkin Family.
