He was truly a Charlotte icon and will be missed for his gregarious smile, friendly handshake and overwhelming sense of family. Many, many wonderful times were celebrated at Mr. Dominics from birthdays, anniversaries, baby showers and ‘date night’ with John. Please accept our deepest sympathy. You will all be in our thoughts and prayers.

I have so many fond memories of Dominic, I’m not sure where to begin. I spent so many great times enjoying the food, friends and of course Dominic’s kindness and generosity. He made Mr Dominic’s the place for folks from Charlotte to gather, laugh and dance the night away! I meet Albert and fell in love in Dominic’s. I will be for ever grateful for the kindness he showed Albert throughout his illness and warm hugs and compassion he gave to me after Albert passed.

My sympothy to the Pane family. He loved his family above all else and will forever live in your hearts (and the hearts of everyone who ever had the pleasure of meeting him)

I have so many fond memories that were made special because of your father. My father worked with your dad catering parties in the early 70’s and then later at Dominic and Earls. My husband and I consider Mr. Dominic’s to be an integral part of our lives and choose to celebrate our special occasions there. Each time, it is magical. My thoughts and prayers go out to your family and please know I will be thinking of you all. Love, Patrick and Jodi McKain

Mr. Dominics always felt like a second home for me and it was Dominic that set that family tone for so many years. His generosity and family first attitude was always contagious. Charlotte lost a legend today, but in Charlotte especially, legends never die!

Some of the most fondest memories of my life are my times at Mr. Dominics. I met more wonderful friends there than any other place. Mr. Dominic was always extremely kind to me and years ago while delivering mail in that area he was always there to offer a meal on the house to warm me up from walking in the cold. He will be greatly missed my many.

  27. Rocky Rockwell on March 4, 2015 at 12:00 am

Was away from Rochester during Dominics early years at the restaurant, but will always remember his hospitality and generosity, particularly with his customer appreciation days and the friendships and memories that spawned from them, over the last 10 years or so. ‘Snowbirding’ will keep me from attending his services, but my thoughts and prayers will be with him and his great family at that time and in the furure. He made Dominic’s a great place to visit during his time there.

  30. Nancy on March 5, 2015 at 12:00 am

To work for Dominic was an honor. He was our teacher and our ‘fearless leader’ as Albert would say. In the early days he was our hostess (holy crap) along with Ernie. He taught his workers how to ‘turn a table’ or as we affectionately would refer to it as ‘chew and screw’ by demanding we drop the check to the table as quickly as possible because there were 100 people in the bar area waiting to eat. You had to be quick. You either swam or you drowned and if you could handle it, you had a job. Luckily, I took swimming lessons. From Dominic you learned the most valuable lesson in life, how to make people feel great about themselves and have a great dining experience while they were in his restaurant. It worked. He had the formula. Customers came and never left. Even after dinner they would go to the bar and hang out with Dominic to enjoy stories, a scotch, cigars and laughs. With Dominic’s talents he turned the restaurant into one of the busiest restaurants in Rochester. As a server this was awesome. Most of the time. It was the place to work, and everyone asked for a job, but us lifetime servers at Dominic’s never left. But Dominic would fit whoever asked for a job into some position somewhere. The food was delcious, we had the best customers, and everyone wanted to eat there or come out and hang out with Dominic. He had alot of friends from every walk of life and treated everyone equaly. Dominic was the mastermind behind pasta in a cup at festivals, and he had a marketing skill unlike none other. He was also the most generous person anyone has ever met, he donated to every charity, he did alot for the community and for individuals and their families. Even back in the day, he was also the one to call when someone in Charlotte needed bail. You could always count on him. Thank you Dominic, it was a privilege to work for you, I thank you for hiring me and giving me the best job one could ever ask for, every boss could learn a lesson or two from you, and I thank you even for embedding Frank Sinatra into my brain, I now know every word to every song. Get that gin game going up in heaven with all the ususal suspects. You are in good company. Thank you Dominic. You are missed, but will never be forgotten. You will always be a Charlotte and Rochester legend. Thank you Nancy Ciminelli

My husband and I have very fond memories of Mr.Dominic’s. It was the first place he went to dinner at when he moved to Rochester. We had many dates there and after we got married, we took the family there. We have moved out of the area to Pennsylvania, and have a hard time finding good places to eat. We were just talking about having dinner there when we come home to visit. He will be missed as he blessed everyone he met. Our sincere condolences to the family.

We just found out about Dominic and are sorry that we didn’t make it to the services and are so sorry for your loss.
The Streicher family has great memories from Dominic’s in Charlotte and although we now go to the Fairport location most of the time the Charlotte location will always hold a special ambiance.
Dominic grew up next to my Mom in the city so we knew him in a special way. Ever since we started taking our kids there in 1981 it was always our restaurant that we considered home. Dominic would bring black olives over to the table and the kids would put them on their fingers which would keep them occupied and allow Sue and I to enjoy our meal and them to have fun.
We once figured out that based on our average trip to Dominic’s once a week for about 30 years totaled over 1,560 dinners, wow! Like Nancy said it was a special place and Dominic made sure it way. To all the Pane family our prayers are with you.
