Carol Leverenz Knight, Greece: beloved and loving wife of 57 years to James Knight, entered eternal rest on November 28, 2023, at the age of 78. She passed away peacefully after listening to her favorite song "How Great Thou Art" and her husband fondly retelling the story of how they first met. Their lives were entwined from the beginning with Carol, Carol’s grandma, and James’ sister all living on the same street. James saw Carol as she was leaving her home to go bowling with his niece. At that moment he said, "I’m going bowling too!" After spending time with Carol that day, he said "I’m going to marry her someday!" Their life story began, and they built a family together in Greece, NY. Carol, a precious daughter of late Laverne and Lucille Leverenz and sister to Donna Dyer, late Jo Anne (David) Callahan, and Peter Leverenz, was born and raised in Greece, NY. She was extremely close to her Grandma and Grandpa Leverenz and spent much time at their home while growing up, often quietly at a desk that her grandma called Carol’s desk or out on the porch with the adults. She recounted many of these stories in the days leading up to her passing. Carol’s giving, modest soul full of selfless love, kindness, compassion, utmost patience, quiet strength, and laughter made her a cherished family member and friend. She truly loved being a mom, and joyfully dedicated her life to her three children, Maureen (Joseph) DiBella, Craig Knight, and Tamara (Michael) Black, who are forever blessed to have been raised by such a special, caring mom. A fun-loving grandma, she is adored by her four grandchildren, Joey, Justin, Jack, and Julia, who will always remember her lovingly and miss her dearly. Carol embodied love in the way she appreciated others, put the needs of others before her own, and sincerely listened, making you feel as if you were the only one in the room. Artistic, a gardener, fun-spirited, kindhearted, spiritual, and inquisitive, Carol loved the arts, traveling, talking to people with different life experiences, her nightly viewing of Jeopardy, and her home filled with treasured memories. An avid learner, she was offered a scholarship to Nazareth College but chose to work for RG&E instead. She is loved deeply, eternally embraced heart-to-heart. Friends may call Wednesday (Dec 6th) 4-7 PM at Vay-Schleich and Meeson, 1075 Long Pond Road, Rochester, NY. Relatives and friends are invited to attend her Mass of Christian Burial which will be celebrated on Thursday, December 7th at 9:30 AM at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, 3003 Dewey Avenue. Interment, Riverside Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Ronald McDonald House in her memory.
Sending my condolences to Jim, Mo, Craig and Tammy and family. She is now up in heaven with her two other favorite people. She will be missed.
