Bette and I went to Nazareth Academy together and were in German class together for three years. Then reconnected at the Hochstein School when our daughter took some classes there. Such a ‘salt of the earth’, common sense, smart, good hearted person. I can hear her and see her in my memories of her. I remember taking the bus and Rundell Library stories. There were stories about nephews/nieces (?) too – if I remember correctly. Our Hochstein experiences were 20 years ago. I became a German teacher at Greece Central. So sorry for your loss. Ganz herzliches Beileid. A solid person, a sincere heart! As we Ukrainians say – May her memory be eternal! Mary Dziuba-Myers Nazareth Academy Class of 1969

Bette was the most good natured, helpful person I ever met in a library, and there are many. She was the librarian at the Hochstein School of Music from the time I arrived in 1981 until 2005 when the library was replaced by an electronic music lab. If the school didn’t have what you were seeking she would go to other libraries in the area to find it. Betty cherished all the thousands of books, scores, music albums, methods, sheets. She was a staunch supporter of her colleagues and attended numerous faculty recitals and concerts. Swamped by the onslaught of donated music, the library sometimes seemed like a maze of music, but the reference works by Grove, Slonimskt, Tovey, were valuable and accessible. Bette’s gentle presence is all the more missed in her passing.

I am so sorry to hear of Bette’s passing. She ran Hochstein’s library/bookstore with great warmth and helpfulness above and beyond. It was a great resource because of who she was. Even though it has been many years, her presence is still sorely missed. I send my condolences to her family.
