Let the family know you care by sharing this tribute

Henrietta: Saturday, February 20, 2010. Predeceased by her parents, Victor & Blanche O’Brien; brother, Raymond; her companion of 30 years, “Jackie-Baby” Salerno; dearest friend, Rita Maynard. Survived and forever cherished by her daughters, Vicki Dolan and Laurie Hambleton; granddaughter, Michelle Clancy and her father, William Clancy. She will be dearly missed by her “adopted daughters”, Joy Ann Amering and Linda Peckham; her Barnard School fellow mischief makers, Carolyn, Vi and Janice; her wonderful friends and neighbors at Bennington Hills and her beloved dogs. She was the heart and soul of our family. At 4’11”, a force of nature so strong, independent and feisty she seemed larger than life. Eternally optimistic she survived hardships with grit and determination. Everyone she met was immediately charmed by her sparkling Irish eyes and playful nature. Her family, friends and lovely home were precious to her. She liked to make a statement whether it is with decorating or her quiet, but formidable personality. We were blessed with 82 years of sunshine and affection; she truly had joy in her life and brought endless joy to others. The family would like to thank the many kindnesses offered this last month by such loyal and thoughtful friends. Her heart was filled with gratitude for the compassion she received. Friends are welcome to join the family in celebrating Arline’s life on Wednesday (February 24th) 2-4 & 7-9 PM at the Vay-Schleich & Meeson Funeral Home 1075 Long Pond Road. Entombment, Riverside Cemetery at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Humane Society at Lollypop Farm, 99 Victor Road, Fairport, NY 14450 in her memory

Arlene was a savior for her lifelong companion, ‘Jackie-Baby.’ Though from very different backgrounds, Jack and Arlene developed an unshakable love and respect for one another. At a time when he needed a confidant, Arlene provided an empathic ear. When he needed a nimble dancer after steaks at Eddie’s Chophouse, Arlene led him around the dance floor. When they needed to compare notes on an episode of the ‘Sopranos,’ Arlene could dissect every plot. I saw how Arlene transformed Jack’s life, giving him, for the first time, the confidence to share his emotions, his aspirations, his fears. As Jack’s nephew I marveled at his metamorphosis, relishing a more urbane and giving uncle. Jack is now united with Arlene. There will never be anyone quite like Arlene. I will miss her. Dear Laurie and family, I will always remember your Mom as the perfect example of growing old, yet having fun at any age. If I could possess half her spunk and vitality, my senior years would be blessed! She was a classic example of her generation, demonstrating that same grit and determination you spoke of. Both qualities are admirable and will be sadly missed. And you, Miss Laurie, need to know that you were a major force in your mother’s life too. As our loved ones become elderly, it is the ‘gift of time’ that matters the most. The daily care and companionship you provided to your mother was priceless, and a rare commodity these days. May your Mom rest in peace, and may you rest assured knowing you were always there for her; a loving daughter, caregiver and confidant. And someday, that will truly be part of your legacy as well. Sincerely and in peace, Debbie Catari
