Amalia entered this world on February 21, 1935, in the small mountain village of Faeto, Italy, born to Amedeo and Lucia. On May 28, 2026, she peacefully left this world with her daughters by her side – exactly where they have been for the past 15 years – surrounding her with unwavering love, care, and devotion, sustained in strength by their loving immediate family.
The story between 1935 and 2026 was rich and extraordinary. In 1951, Amalia immigrated to America with her parents and her beloved brothers, Tonino and Rino, leaving behind the village she loved in search of new opportunities. The family settled in Rochester, New York, where she met the love of her life, Cosmo Plantone. Together they shared 55 years of marriage and raised four children: Tommy, Phyllis, Lucinda, and Amedeo Alan.
Amalia’s first and greatest love was God. Her Catholic faith was the foundation of her life and guided every decision she made. Attending daily Mass was not simply a routine—it was a calling. She was a devoted prayer warrior whose faith touched countless lives. Whether offering encouragement, sharing Scripture, or praying fervently for those in need, she left a lasting spiritual legacy that will continue through the generations she inspired.
Amalia was a woman of remarkable passion, strength, and determination. She spoke her mind with honesty, loved fiercely, and devoted herself wholeheartedly to her family, faith, and community. She was a dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, and homemaker who managed her household with grace and helped run the family business office. An exceptional cook, her meals brought family and friends together, and her homemade pizzelles became legendary. She cherished summers spent camping and created countless treasured memories at the family’s camp in Forestport. A formidable Scopa player, she was always ready for a spirited game.
A lifelong learner and storyteller, Amalia became a published author, writing two books that reflected her experiences, faith, and love of family. She also shared her warmth and deep connection to her Italian heritage as a weekly personality on the Sunday afternoon radio program Italian Carousel, where listeners came to know and appreciate her vibrant spirit. She generously gave her time volunteering with the Greece Rotary Club, Italian-American Community Center, and St. Joseph’s Villa, finding joy in serving others and strengthening her community. Whether through her writing, radio appearances, volunteer work, prayers, or countless acts of kindness, Amalia touched innumerable lives and left an enduring legacy of compassion, faith, and service.
Amalia leaves behind a legacy of faith, resilience, generosity, and unconditional love. Her passionate spirit and loving heart will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Cosmo Plantone.
She is survived by her children, Tommy Plantone (Donna Koehler), Phyllis Plantone, Lucinda Plantone, and Amedeo Alan Plantone (Joelle); her grandchildren, Christopher Plantone (Erin), Ashley Plantone (Luc Rosedale), Nicole Fernandez (Nic), Cody Noyes, Jennifer Sarkis (Jason), and Stephen Shoaf; her cherished great-grandchildren, Lucas, Elia, Sienna, Dean, Evie, and Nic; sisters-in-law, Lani Pappano and Kathy Plantone; and many beloved nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.
The family takes comfort in knowing that the woman who spent a lifetime praying for others has now been welcomed into the presence of the God she loved so deeply.
“Well done, good and faithful servant.”
