Alfred G. Gilbert Irondequoit: August 16,1925-November 20,2017 Al grew up on the banks of the Ohio River in Wheeling, West Virginia. He was a proud veteran of World War II. He graduated MIT, worked at Kodak for 20 years where he retiring in 1971. Al and Joyce enjoyed their remaining years at Voyager. Al not only built boats in Taiwan he built many in America including the Harbor Town Belle and ran it until his death. Al loved to challenge people which lead to abundant conversations. Sorry to hear of the passing of Al Gilbert. He was a man I admired for his strength of character and knowledge of boats and boating. We will miss seeing him at Voyager every time we are there to spend time on our boat. Farewell to you and Joyce. From Bill & Faye Towner
I was deeply saddened when I learned of Al’s passing. I will miss our stimulating chats in his office. I always saw Al as a permanent fixture at the river and the harbor won’t be the same without him.
My deepest sympathy goes out to Al’s family. So sorry to hear we have lost someone very special. Things just won’t be the same without Al around. He will be missed.
I am sorry to hear of Al’s passing. I will miss seeing and chatting with him in the marina office. My deepest sympathy for the Bohner family and the entire Voyager Marina crew.
Al’s passing will leave a big void down at the river, but his place in the history of Charlotte and the Rochester harbor is assured. He was a wise and wonderful man, to be missed by many. Our sincerest condolences to family, friends, and crew.
Many pleasant memories of Al and of Voyager. Al was one-of-a-kind: constant energy! A bright light has gone out!
This man helped me to see that people who run marinas are akin to carnival workers and not to be trusted.
