Let the family know you care by sharing this tribute

October 18, 1935 – October 21, 2025

This week we lost a truly unique and extraordinary man, my incredible husband Al Porter. He was a man who never compromised his beliefs and held firm to his convictions. The word that best describes Al was “humble.”  He never felt it was necessary to tell the world of his achievements or to be celebrated for a life well lived. Therefore, It is no surprise that he chose to leave this world without fanfare. In keeping with his request, we are honoring him by having no wake, funeral, or celebration, other than one that will be held with close family members.  I want to thank everyone for the outpouring of love and sentiment you have shared with myself and Al’s daughters.  His memory lives on through all of us.

If I were sitting on the porch with Hod, I would thank Him for bringing you into our lives. You stood by my sister during her most challenging times and your love for her never wavered. You were always there with strength, support and unconditional love. You meant the world to me too Whitey. It’s why I loved you then, love you still. Always have, always will.

This was a man of many personalities and strong convictions. He was admired for his loving ways to Diane, his daughters and family. As the song goes, he led his life HIS way. RIP, friend.

Al was my inspiration and champion when it came to fulfilling my dream to live in the water. He was always there for me and didn’t hesitate to offer his honest big brother advice. We will never forget the ‘red piece of shit’ he so famously coined. I was touched when he called me ‘Joey’, no one but family really calls me that. I will miss you Al. Thank you for taking such good care of our D and for always being your authentic self. I will think of you every time I gaze out to the water. Love you.

He was the best neighbor when I was growing up. He raised 3 beautiful girls that became 3 of my closest friends. He will be truly missed but will live on through his family 💔

    Whitey,
Seventy years ago, we met-two souls at the start of a journey neither of us could have imagined. From that moment on you became a constant in my life: a brother in spirit and great friend!
We grew up and laughed till we cried and weathered many storms!
You had a way of lighting up a room even sometimes with saying “No horseradish from my Bloody Mary, my night is ruined.
I will miss those times forever!
But most of all, I will miss you-my friend of a lifetime! Thank you for the memories, the laughter and the love.
    Rest easy Whitey.
You were one of a kind and you did it MY WAY!

I had the privilege to work with Al for over 40 years at AJL. Not only did I learn much about the sheet metal fabrication business during this time, more importantly, it was the example of professionalism and integrity that Al taught to all who worked with him that made the business so successful. Outside of work Al was not hesitant to be your friend. He was always respectful, kind and generous with a great sense of humor. Thank you, Al, for all of your thoughtfulness and guidance.
May God bless the Porter family.

    Diane,
There are no words that Chris and I can say to you! We loved him, enjoyed all our time together in Florida when we would meet up. The world will be missing a wonderful individual but there has been a new angel in heaven now watching over all of us.

Without a doubt, Al was one of the most successful individuals I had the privilege of knowing and working with him. Few people truly know of his accomplishments. He was a joy to know and be with.
