William J. “Bill” Scheg

Beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. Passed after a long, full life and a brief illness at the age of 99.

Predeceased by his wife Evelyn and siblings George, Delores, Helen, and Richard. Survived by a large and loving family – his five children and their spouses, William Jr. (Peggy), James (Sandi), Alan (Pat), Betty Scheg-Backus (Steve), Joyce Bernard; his grandchildren Rachel Scheg, Kevin Scheg, Bethany Salem (Eric), Jeffrey Backus, William Bernard, Kristin Bernard, Katie Bernard; his great-grandchildren Caleb Bolden, Jace Salem and Lucas Salem. Also survived by many cousins, nieces, nephews, dear friends and neighbors.

Bill was born and raised near LeRoy, NY where, as a teen, he worked on area farms to help support his family. He recently recalled driving a Farmall F-12 on the farm and saving enough money to buy his first car, a used Model T. He joined Eastman Kodak Company as a young man and spent over 40 years there except for a period of military service during WWII. He was a proud veteran of the U.S. Army Signal Corps and served overseas in Africa and Italy. He delighted in telling others about visiting the Vatican where he had an audience with Pope Pius XXII and kissed his ring. He also built the family vacation cottage in Canada that he thoroughly enjoyed and which remains in the family for future generations to love.

The family extends its deep appreciation to those who supported Bill and his family during his recent illness . We are forever grateful!

In keeping with Bill’s wishes, there will be no prior calling hours. Private interment will be held at the convenience of the family. Those wishing to do so may direct donations in Bill’s memory to Webster Comfort Care Home, 700 Holt Rd, Webster, NY 14580 or to Honor Flight Rochester, Inc., PO Box 23581, Rochester, NY 14692.   For more information and to sign his online guestbook, visit www.meesonfamily.com
