Shirley Wosnick

(DeRossett)

Charlotte/Greece:  Tuesday, June 9, 2020 at age 99.  Born Oct 13, 1920 in Water Gap, Kentucky.  Predeceased by her husband, Frank; her parents and her 8 brothers and sisters.  Survived by her brother, DeGarmo of Lexington, KY; son, Frank Jr. (Paulette); daughter, Judith Mary Downey; granddaughter, Christina (Angus) Butler; great-grandchildren, Rylan, Lilah and Mairi; special family friend, Lily Anne Wells; many nieces, nephews and dear friends.  The family wishes to thank the staff at Latta Road Nursing Home East and at Strong Memorial Hospital 6 Floor 3400 for the compassionate care given to Shirley.

Shirley moved to Rochester during the early 1940’s and worked as a LPN at local nursing homes.  She was an Avon Lady in the Charlotte area for many years and volunteered at St. Charles Borromeo Church.  She loved to read and garden.  Shirley enjoyed traveling to visit family in Kentucky and friends across the U.S.  Shirley also treasured the good times; her and Frank had at the “floating cottage” on the Erie Canal.

No prior calling.  Her Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.  Interment was held in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.   In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or the charity of one’s choice in her memory.  For more information or to sign Shirley’s online guestbook, please visit Meesonfamily.com.

  3. Judy, Frank, and family,
I am so saddened to hear about Shirley. She almost made 100! She was a much loved member of the Latta Road East family, which is now losing more members. I hope you are all able to find peace in the lifetime of love and laughs she gave you.
    -Suzanne Albright

  4. My deepest and heartfelt sympathy on the passing of your mom. Your parents were such good neighbors. I have fond memories when she taught me to make fried apples. She made my boys blankets and slippers. They still have the “Shirley blankets” today. Please let me know when you make arrangements.
