  1. Dear Family,
I am saddened by the death of your brother, my cousin, Fr. John. Even though distance kept us apart these many years, he was never far in spirit. As children, in Rochester, we shared many happy times. He taught me to drive the car (not a happy time for him, maybe) and he gave me rides home from Charles House, where we both worked as camp counselors. He officiated at our wedding (47 years ago) and he celebrated the life of my parents (Marge and Stan Glogowski). He was there providing comfort, support and peace. I loved him, I thank him and I will miss him.
To you, his family, I pray that you will find some consolation knowing that he is at peace and with the Lord.
    Mel and Anne

  2. Family – May you feel the Loving Arms of God holding you up right now. Though I have not seen Father John since I was little, I do remember him. My name is Celeste. My mom and dad, both in Heaven now too, are Reverend John Chinelly, Sr.and Judy (Glogowski.)
    Love and prayers for you.
Jesus said: ‘I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in Me, though he were dead, yet shall he live: And whosoever liveth and believeth in Me shall never die.’ John 11.25-26

  3. Father John had enriched my life when I was in need of a guiding light. He will truly be missed..
From a member of the BE family,.
    Linda

  4. father John has been called by our Lord. It’s sad to lose a wonderful person. We must be joyfullest at the same time for he will be with our Lord.

  5. Father John was extremely supportive during a most difficult time in my life. One of his classmates came to live with us during a sad time. Father John visited frequently and during the end of his classmates’ life, Father John came and stayted. He pitched right in and took care of his friend right to the end. I will never forget that time in my life, made so much easier because of Fr. John’s presence, both spiritually and physically.

  6. Father John was so good to the kids at Family camp. Every year he would bring a toy or something special for every one of them. I will miss his message about the parable of the Prodical Son he shared every year during reconciliation service. He was the most selfless man I ever met. Truely a Man of God. Camp won’t be the same with out him.

  7. Father John will truly be missed! His stories and words advise will always be close to my heart. One the I will never forget was the one about hold anger in…It is like holding a tiger in your coat….Only you will be hurt by it. Father John thank you for being a part of my life…I will NEVER FORGET YOU!!

  8. Fr John has been so much a part of my life as well as of our B.E.family’s life. He was supportive and caring to each of us. He always greeted us with a smile….and had a joke to lighten our spirits…..His smile, his laughter made the load lighter…our hearts lighter….he was there to listen to us, to hold a hand when the need was there,to console, to support, to bring compassion. He brought GOD’S love to the facilitators and to the participants on the weekends.

  9. Fr. John always had a joke to tell. Even if he already told the joke to me, it was fun to hear it again and see the twinkle in his eyes. I will always remember the kindness and encouragement he gave to me when I was placed in an admininstrative position. He knew exactly how to lift one’s spirits. Thank you, Father, for the blessing you were in my life and for the difference you made in so many lives. Knowing how important your faith was to you, I am positive that this final journey is the one you have been waiting for and is the best ever! God grant you eternal peace.

  10. Fr. John often celebrated Mass here at the Newman Center in Brockport. WE all loved him –he was such a kind, gentle and passtoral person. He supported us in so many ways, while he was pastor at St. Leo’s and after retirement.
He is my model of what anyone in mimnistry–or any Christian–should be like. What a wonderful person. We all will miss him deeply. We are offering both Masses today for him–in thanks for all his gifts.

  11. Fr. John touched so many lives. His tender heart, kind words and shining smile are a gift to all that knew him. He has helped me heal in so many ways. Thank you to his family for sharing him with us! Single Parent Family Camp will miss him terribly.

  12. Gary and I want to let all of John’s Brothers and Sisters know that you all our in our thoughts and Prayers at this time.
    Judy and Gary Borst-Roswell, N.M.

  13. I am a cousin. My dad, Stan, and Uncle Joe were brothers. I remember all the times visiting Jack, Jim, Paul, Leo, Carl, Mark David, Janet & Nancy at the farm. Fr. John taught me to play the trumpet. He was always so kind and gentle. I will keep him and you all in my prayers.

    Marty and Kathy

  14. I send my condolences to all of you. I know how much Fr. John will be missed.
I remember when he came to my house on xmas eve after mass. He is now with his other family members and in peace.
My deepest sympathy goes out to all of you.

  15. I was very devastated about Fr. John’s death. I have known him since I was abiout 11 years old. I used to phone sit at Holy Family and he would take my out for ice cream afterwards. He tried to teach me and my brother how to waterski (unfortunately it was not successful with me). My dad had esophageal cancer when I was 16 and he was there for my family and thanks to him, my father converted to Catholic. He baptized my daughter who was put up for adoption, he married me and got my annullment when that marriage failed. I had lost contact iwth him until I made my 1st BE weekend and ironically that Thurs. my mom was diagnosed with colon cancer. I had asked the people from BE if they knew Father but was told no. At one point, they told me to close my eyes and brought me out to the main room and told me to open my eyes. There he was standing. I was happy that I had connected with my old friend again. He had been such a special part of my life. I will never forget him and will miss him terribly.God bless your family duirng this terrible time. Maureen

  16. I will be forever grateful to Father John’s wisdom and kindness at the Beginning Experience Weekend last Fall. His words had a very positive impact on me during a most difficult time of my life. My heartful sympathies go out to all of his family.Thank you Father John!

  17. I will miss Fr. John so much, this sweet, kind and genuine man. I will never forget his wonderful sense of humor. The funny stories he would tell me and then urge me to make sure I share them with my husband Klaus. Some of the best times in my life were shared with him and Patty Gorman on our music convention trips. Father planned them with such care, always leaving room for fun. When we strayed off course on occasion, he would say, ‘ Girls, we’re on an adventure.’ And it always was. My famliy and I love this man of God. Now he is on his greatest adventure.

  18. My sister sent the notification to me. It has been a long time but I still have great memories of your family when we all were little. I will remember John and all of you at this weekends masses.
    With love and blessings.
    Dave

  20. Nancy and Ed , Linda and I were so sorry to hear of your brother’s passing. Please know that he and you and your family are in our thoughts and prayers. Barry and Linda

  21. Our deepest sympathies to Father John’s family. He was such a huge part of our Camp Stella Maris Single Parent Family Camp family as well. We are eternally grateful for the loving guidance and support which he provided to us during such turbulent times in our lives. He will be greatly missed every August, but what wonderful memories we have to cherish always.

We love you Father John, and we’ll see you again in heaven.

    Traci, Lia & Nicky Movalli

  22. Our deepest sympathy on the loss of your brother, John. My mom, Helen, was Aunt Ann and Aunt Roses sister from Troy, N.Y. I remember coming to your house, when we had a family reunion in Rochester. You used to have a motorcycle in the back and we’d ride it Such wonderful family memories. we had great times. God’s blessings on all of you. Love, Peg and Tony

  23. We are deeply saddened by the death of your brother, uncle, and friend. We have known Fr John for many years through Single Parent Family Camp. Fr. John was ALWAYS kind, loving, understanding and giving. And that SMILE!!!! He always made an effort to reconnect with past campers while being available for newbies as well…..and he always, always made time for the children. He was there for me at the darkest time in my life… and showed such compassion and understanding that I will treasure always….
My FAVORITE memory of him though is from family camp 2009… when he allowed me to (temporarily) dye his hair blue! (and yes.. I have photos!) His ability to be just an ‘ordinary guy’ was one of his greatest gifts……we will miss him immensely and we grieve your loss deeply….as well as rejoice at heaven’s gain….Thank you for sharing your brother with us…

  24. We are saddened to hear of Father John’s passing. We were fortunate to be his neighbors. We came to know him and admired his gentle spirit and concern for others. Our condolences are with his family.

  25. We had not known Father John for a long time. He was our neighbour at the lake and would often join us all for a friday evening out. We will miss him a lot. He was so kind and undestanding. I will specialy think of him in the morning at the lake. We have lost a true freind.

  26. We want to extend our sympathy to his entire family. We have known him for many years and cannot believe we will not be seeing him at our Friday night dinners and parties any more. He was always so calm, and therefore made us feel calm whenever we were with him. He will be missed. He will always be in our thoughts and prayers.

  27. What a kind & gentle spirit Fr John was, with an abundance of spirituality to match. He held the hands of so many of the ‘walking wounded’ of BE. His dedication to our group was never ending. God called him quickly & I’m sure said ‘Well done my good & gentle servant’. May you know God’s peace in your great loss.
