Resided in: Rochester, New York

Michael Joseph Mowry, 24, of Rochester, NY, went home to be with God on December 22, 2017. Michael grew up in Spencerport, NY where he graduated from Spencerport Highschool in 2011. He spent time in Virgina where he was learning how to rehabilitate an old plantation. While there, Michael had the opportunity to work as a sports anylist in Washingtonn, DC in the press box for the Wizards and Capitals. At his first game, he got to see one of his favorite players, Lebron James. Michael’s childhood and lifelong dream was to be a sportscaster (and, of course, a budding rapper and comedian). He was an advid football and Buffalo Bills fan, a passion he shared with his grandmother, JoAnne and dear friend, Bob Perkins . Michael attended many games and followed the Bills at their sports training camps every year since he was a child. Michael was an old soul with a quick wit and an easy smile. His grin was always ear to ear. He loved to make people laugh and was known for pulling pranks , often driving us crazy! Michael loved family and he loved hard. He was a protector to his sister Sam, from the moment she was born. The path that Michael traveled was never linear, but no matter where it took him, family was his home. Michael was an organ donor and through his death, has given the gift of life to two others, a selfless act of kindness that reflects who Michael truly was. Those who knew him well knew Michael’s heart. Even with his deep voice and all of his bravado, Michael still possed a child-like quality. We will miss his laugh and antics; his ability to simulataneously make you want to smack him and laugh at the same time; his heart. Our lives our forever changed but along with profound sadness, there is sense of comfort knowing he is watching over us. His energy is all around and everywhere in between. Michael is survived by his mother, Kelly Whitney-Leckie and his step-father, Peter Stanzel; his loving sister Samantha Reyes, half-sister, Emily Mowry; His maternal grandparents, JoAnne and Early Whitney, his aunt, Jody Whitney (Erika Gullo) and their five- year-old son, Michael’s cousin Cohen Joseph, whom he loved and adored. Michael is also survived by his father, Craig Mowry of Tenessee, step-sister, Angela Mowry and step-brother, Brian Mowry, as well as several aunts, uncles, cousins and loving friends that he considered family. Funeral arrangements are being held Friday, Decmber 29th, 2017, at Vay-Scheleich & Meeson Funeral Home and Chapel; 1075 Long Pond Rd, Rochester, 14626. Calling hours will be: 4PM-7PM, directly followed by a mass service in the chapel. In Lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Finger Lakes Donor Recovery Network, Corporate Woods of Brighton, Building 30, Suite 220, Rochester, NY 14623 on behalf of Michael Mowry.
